(VLO) With less than a month to go until the Mid-Autumn Festival, children’s toys with diverse designs are being sold on many streets. Accordingly, traditional toys are gradually dominating, not only receiving the love of customers but also becoming eye-catching decorative accessories at coffee shops.

Traditional toys "reign"

About a month ago, coffee shops started decorating with colorful mini lanterns, drums, bamboo fans, etc., creating a very cozy Mid-Autumn atmosphere, evoking a familiar feeling of childhood.

Mr. Le Minh Tan - owner of May Coffee & Tea (Ward 1, Vinh Long City) shared: "Our shop always has decorative themes according to the festive seasons of the year to refresh the space, meeting the photography needs of customers.

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival, the shop is decorated in a childhood style with traditional toys and bamboo objects, thereby helping children follow their parents to go to a coffee shop and enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival.

According to Mr. Tan, the cost of decorating the shop with mid-autumn accessories is estimated at more than 5 million VND, “… the shop has received positive feedback from young people, many families highly appreciate the interesting decoration space, making customers eagerly look forward to the Mid-Autumn Festival”.

Besides the desire to create a cozy and connected coffee-drinking space during the reunion season, Mr. Tan also instructed his staff to make paper lanterns to give to customers.

The program "Come to May, receive a lantern immediately" is applied to bills from 125,000 VND or more. At the same time, if the family has a need, the restaurant's staff will guide the technique of making paper lanterns according to their preferences.

These are lamps made from bamboo frames in the shape of rabbits, butterflies, carps, chickens... wrapped in plain kraft paper, fixed with a type of glue that is safe for children.

“At first, I planned to use red cellophane to wrap the lanterns, but this material is very easy to tear and catch fire. Making lanterns from kraft paper will be more durable, the smooth surface is easy to paint, and stimulates children's creativity,” said Mr. Tan.

Ms. Huynh Thai Doanh - owner of Thai Nguyen toy store on 30/4 street (Ward 1, Vinh Long city), said that this year, traditional mid-autumn toys are the majority, not only are the designs diverse, the products have clear origins, are safe for children, but domestically produced handmade toys are also becoming more attractive to customers.

According to Ms. Doanh, Vietnamese goods used to be “inferior” to cheap imported toys with bright colors, funny sounds, and many additional features.

But this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, domestically produced toys are gradually dominating, with little price fluctuation. Therefore, star lanterns, boats, lion heads… made of cellophane in green, red, and yellow have appeared more in many toy stores.

In addition, according to retailers, prices of electronic mid-autumn toys increased by about 5-10% compared to last year.

Specifically, 2-piece plastic battery-operated lanterns cost from 35,000-50,000 VND/piece, light-up sticks and earplugs cost from 60,000-75,000 VND/piece, lanterns with various shapes that play music cost from 70,000-150,000 VND/piece...

Besides lanterns, plastic masks such as Ong Dia, Te Thien, Superman... cost from 20,000-40,000 VND/piece.

Taking advantage of the time after school, Ms. Thu Phuong (Ward 5, Vinh Long City) took her child to a toy store to choose her favorite mid-autumn toy: "On the occasion of the new school year, I promised to give my child a mid-autumn lantern.

This year's toys are diverse in design, I am suggesting to my children how to choose age-appropriate mid-autumn toys that are safe."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Quyen, who specializes in selling all kinds of Mid-Autumn Festival toys on Nguyen Hue Street (Ward 2, Vinh Long City), said that this year's lanterns are diverse in design, color, and price.

Among them, modern doll, princess, and superhero shaped lamps that can play music, light up, and move are attracting the attention of many parents.

According to Ms. Quyen, the price level of mid-autumn toys this year is not much different from previous years, but low purchasing power makes business people worried.

“Currently, I only import about 1,000 toys. At my retail location, I import and sell as much as I can, and I don't want to import too much.

Partly because of the difficult economic situation this year, and also because people's habit of celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival only increases about 1-2 weeks before the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, I hope that by then purchasing power will be better" - Ms. Quyen said.

To ensure the safety of children when using Mid-Autumn Festival toys, parents should buy products at reputable stores, prioritize choosing items with full labels, origin, detailed warnings, and clear instructions for use.
