Do Nguyen Thanh Chung shares his thoughts before arriving in Vietnam: 'I'm eagerly waiting to train with Ninh Binh'

After more than a decade with Slavia Sofia, young midfielder Do Nguyen Thanh Chung left Bulgaria to return to Vietnam to play for Ninh Binh. Chung opened up about his journey growing up in Bulgaria and his desire to contribute to his homeland.

On his personal Instagram, young midfielder Do Nguyen Thanh Chung shared his feelings for the first time when he decided to leave Bulgarian football to return to Vietnam to play. After more than 14 years with Slavia Sofia - the place he considers his "second home", Chung closed an important journey to open a new journey with Ninh Binh Club.

"And now it's time to say goodbye to my favorite team. Slavia Sofia, the team that welcomed me when I was only 6 years old, when I was a child and full of desire with the dream of becoming a football player. Slavia Sofia is not only the place where I trained to become a player but also helped me grow up and become who I am today," he wrote.

Born in 2005 in Bulgaria, in a Vietnamese family, Thanh Chung has dual Vietnamese-Bulgarian nationality. He started his career at CSKA Sofia training center, then grew up at Slavia Sofia and played professionally since 2013. In the 2024–2025 season, he is considered one of the three best young players in Bulgaria.

In his farewell post to Slavia Sofia, Chung expressed his gratitude to the club, coaching staff and fans.

"I am grateful that from the first day I was welcomed as a Slavia child, surrounded by positive people with support and trust. I am grateful for the path that the club and the coaches have given me over the years.

I cherish the friendships I have made here and everything I have learned at the club. I am also extremely grateful to the fans. They have shared my love for Slavia and have always been by my side on this journey."

The future is bright for the club and the team.

Thanh Chung said he "can't wait" to start his new journey in Vietnam and is ready to learn and adapt to the football environment in Vietnam.

"I am very excited to return to compete in Vietnam and cannot wait to train with the new team," he said in Vietnamese on July 28.

Despite having to leave the place where he has been attached since childhood, Chung affirmed that he does not regret the decision to return to his hometown to continue pursuing his career and his dream of wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey.

On July 27, Ninh Binh Club said: "The next new player that Ninh Binh Club recruited is young midfielder Do Nguyen Thanh Chung, born in 2005. He was born in Bulgaria but his parents are both Vietnamese. Ninh Binh Club recruiting Do Nguyen Thanh Chung not only shows a long-term vision for the future of the team but also wants him to contribute to the U.23 Vietnam team or the Vietnam national team if there is an opportunity in the future."
