Businesses need to adopt clean production and green transformation.

The project sets targets for 2025 regarding the percentage of businesses meeting ISO 14001 environmental management standards; the percentage reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the use of electricity, new and renewable energy; the percentage of industrial parks, high-tech parks, and industrial clusters with centralized wastewater treatment systems meeting environmental technical standards; and the percentage of industrial facilities outside of concentrated zones that generate 50 m3/day or more of wastewater with wastewater treatment systems meeting environmental technical standards...

To achieve the above objectives, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated a survey of 300 travel service businesses, tourist areas and attractions, and tourist transportation businesses regarding the implementation of environmental management systems according to ISO 14001 standards. They also developed and implemented this standard in the tourism sector, ensuring compliance with regulations on environmental friendliness, efficient energy use, and reduction of household waste at source in business operations.

The Department of Industry and Trade organized a general awareness training course on environmental management systems according to ISO 14001 standards for organizations and individuals engaged in production and business in the city; it also organized training courses on general awareness of green productivity and solutions for sustainable business development. The Department of Science and Technology supported industrial enterprises in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Management Board of Da Nang High-Tech Park and Industrial Zones, and the Vietnam Clean Production Center conducted assessments at 29 enterprises and proposed 334 cleaner production solutions...

Businesses are researching and implementing several solutions that bring many economic, social, and environmental benefits, such as: using fly ash to produce non-fired bricks and tiles; collecting and sorting waste paper and cardboard to use as input materials for kraft paper manufacturing companies... Waste wood from Viet Lang Forestry Co., Ltd. is used to fuel the boilers of the green energy production company.

Danang Rubber Joint Stock Company has invested in modern production lines that not only produce high-quality products but also recover and recycle old tires, creating high-tech retreaded and glued tires to minimize environmental waste, extend product lifecycles, and have been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment as a unit that recycles products and packaging in accordance with the Law on Environmental Protection.

Besides almost completely eliminating fossil fuels, Tan Long Packaging Paper Mill has invested in modern technology to recycle 70 tons of waste paper per day, helping the business save costs in the long term. Mr. Ha Ngoc Thong, Director of Tan Long Packaging Paper Mill, shared: “Although the initial investment cost is high, this is a responsibility that the business must fulfill in the current development trend.”

Tan Long Paper and Packaging Factory, Asia Architecture and Trade Co., Ltd., and others have installed rooftop solar power systems for use in production and to sell back electricity to the Vietnam Electricity Group's grid. Nguyen Thanh Phuoc, Director of Ba Loc Adhesive and Abrasive Fabric Manufacturing Company (Hoa Khanh Industrial Park), said: “Investing in a rooftop solar power system has proven highly effective, saving the company 3-6 million VND per month on electricity bills and generating 500-600 million VND per year from electricity sales to the grid. Furthermore, the system significantly reduces the temperature inside the factory, eliminating the stuffiness during hot seasons and increasing labor productivity. As a result, the company has adjusted its working hours to maximize the electricity generated from the solar power system.”

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Van Tru, in line with the trend of sustainable development and contributing to environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, Vietnam is shifting its growth model towards a green economy, a circular economy, low emissions, and efficient resource use. For Da Nang, along with building an environmentally friendly city, green transformation, digital transformation, and the development of renewable energy are always identified as strategic directions.

The city is implementing programs to support businesses in cleaner production, digital transformation, green transformation, building smart factories, developing rooftop solar energy, piloting green electricity certification mechanisms, etc., contributing to spreading awareness, promoting linkages and action to jointly build a sustainable development ecosystem that effectively adapts to global climate change.
