Today (May 20), the Malaysia Masters 2025 badminton tournament officially kicked off with qualifying matches. In the men's singles qualifying round, there were two Vietnamese players, Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang.

Le Duc Phat ( world rank 63) played impressively against Julien Carraggi (Belgium, world rank 52) and won 2-0 (21/19, 21/18). Nguyen Hai Dang (world rank 77) had an easier time when facing Tan Jia Jie (Malaysia, world rank 82) and won 2-0 (21/17, 21/8).

Unfortunately, they were drawn in the same branch, so Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang had to face each other in the decisive match for a ticket to the main round of the men's singles. The close friends in real life, Duc Phat and Hai Dang, became opponents in the "life and death" match at the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament. Having faced each other many times, Duc Phat and Hai Dang clearly understood each other's strengths and weaknesses. The player who was in good physical condition and showed his full potential promised to win.

Le Duc Phat is the highest ranked Vietnamese male badminton player in the world badminton rankings.

With Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang facing off in the decisive match, Vietnamese badminton is certain to have a spot in the main round of the men's singles event of the Malaysia Masters 2025 badminton tournament. In the women's singles event, Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 27th in the world) will go straight to the main round, facing 2019 world champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (India, ranked 16th in the world).

The 2025 Malaysia Masters International Badminton Tournament is part of the BWF World Tour Super 500 system with a total prize money of 475,000 USD (nearly 12 billion VND). Of which, the prize for the men's and women's singles championship is 35,000 USD/event (about 875 million VND).
