"The Portuguese team played fiercely. They are very strong, not weak. The Vietnamese women's team must focus on defense, must find a way to defend more firmly," defender Chuong Thi Kieu assessed the next opponent of the Vietnamese women's team at the 2023 Women's World Cup.
The Portuguese women's team opened their World Cup campaign with a 0-1 defeat to the Netherlands. Chuong Thi Kieu and her teammates watched the match from start to finish. Compared to the US team, Portugal is not as strong. However, the European team ranked 21st in the world is still superior to the Vietnamese women's team in many aspects.
"We watched until the end of the match. They were very strong. Therefore, the Vietnamese women's team had to concentrate, not think that any team was weak. We had to concentrate fully. The important thing when competing is ourselves, we have to be confident, go on the field in the best physical condition to fight, we only know that the opponent is very strong, so we have to fight with all our might" , Chuong Thi Kieu shared.

The defender wearing the number 3 jersey has just returned after a long period of injury treatment. She was sent onto the field by coach Mai Duc Chung in the second half of the match against the US team. Chuong Thi Kieu said she is still not 100% fit to play due to having been out for nearly a year, but returning to the field has helped the defender gradually regain her confidence and feeling for playing football.
"Everyone's physical condition is very good. The Vietnamese women's team will focus on how to play the best in the next match. Coach Mai Duc Chung reminded us that we should not lose the ball too much, and must hold the ball firmly to coordinate," said Chuong Thi Kieu.
In the final interview before entering the training session, the defender of the Vietnamese team emphasized that she and her teammates are not afraid of the cold in New Zealand, because just thinking about the national flag and the national team will make the players compete with passion.
