International scientific conference "Innovation in plant breeding technology in enterprises and research organizations".

The workshop took place in the context of the 4.0 revolution, rapid climate change, and implementation of Resolution 57 of the Politburo . Therefore, the application of technology to select and create new plant varieties, bringing into practice plant varieties that are both capable of high productivity and resistant to pests and diseases, have good quality, and develop sustainable Vietnamese agriculture has become very necessary.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My, General Director of PAN Group, said: Selecting and creating plant varieties is the foundation of agriculture . In the context of rapidly changing climate, higher market demands, and increasingly demanding consumers, varieties and seed technology are the starting point of every value chain. PAN Group always identifies this as a strategic focus. And to do this well, close cooperation between businesses and scientists is indispensable.

Ms. Tra My affirmed: “If we only have aspirations but lack technology, innovation, genetic resources, and the connection between research and application, all efforts will not go far. Therefore, connecting and sharing knowledge between researchers and businesses in areas such as management, exploitation of genetic resources, and development of new breeding technologies in research and breeding of plants will solve the challenges facing the field of breeding, creating achievements."

Professor, Dr. Pham Van Cuong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, said: The world as well as Vietnam have achieved very special achievements in innovation in plant breeding technology. In Vietnam, we have 100-120 day rice varieties instead of 180-200 day rice varieties; from 180cm high rice varieties down to 100cm; from 3-4 flower varieties to 9-10 flower varieties; from rice varieties with only 3-4 tons of yield to 9-10 ton rice varieties. The transition from high-yield rice varieties to high-yield, delicious, and disease-resistant rice varieties is an achievement in breeding."

GS, TS Phạm Văn Cường, Phó Giám đốc Học viện Nông nghiệp Việt Nam.

Professor, Dr. Pham Van Cuong, Deputy Director of Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.

Mr. Cuong informed: "In 2024, Vietnam's rice exports will reach a record 9.18 million tons with a turnover of 5.75 billion USD, an increase of 12.9% in volume and 23% in value compared to 2023. This result is due to the work of selecting and creating varieties. Vietnam Academy of Agriculture wishes to cooperate with international enterprises and organizations to meet the needs of selecting and creating plant varieties in Vietnam and around the world."

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Seed Group Joint Stock Company: "Statistics in 2024 show that more than 60% of recognized varieties were researched and proposed by domestic enterprises, affirming the key position of the private sector in this field. Therefore, solutions such as financial incentives, legal reforms, research infrastructure development, human resource training support, promoting public-private partnerships (PPP) and promoting international cooperation to transfer technology and advanced genetic resources not only help shorten the time to research new varieties but also contribute to increasing productivity, quality and competitiveness of Vietnamese agriculture in the context of globalization and increasingly evident climate change".

Emphasizing the role of Resolution 57 on science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation and Resolution 68 on private economic development, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My said: "This is the driving force for us to export strongly and continue to conquer the most demanding markets. We have had a series of cooperation plans with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and partners to demonstrate our commitment to bringing Resolution 57 into life - not only on paper but through real connections to build a sustainable development goal."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My, General Director of PAN Group, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Vinaseed Group.

Within the framework of the event, PAN Group and Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in training and human resource development; strengthening cooperation in scientific research and technology transfer; cooperation in developing international relations and connecting partners; and funding scholarships for students.
