Officials of the Women's Union of Ban Bo commune communicate population policy to women members of Na Hieng village.

Ms. Doan Huong Thom - President of the Women's Union of Ban Bo commune said: After the establishment of Ban Bo commune, the whole association had 21 branches with 1,787 members. The number of members is large, the area is large. Especially in remote villages, the rainy season causes traffic disruption, most members often go to work, making it difficult to arrange time to fully participate in the activities of the association and branches. In addition, the level of education and awareness of members is uneven; some women are reluctant to share about reproductive health care issues. This is an obstacle in the process of communication, grasping information, thoughts and aspirations of members at the grassroots level.
Clearly identifying the shortcomings and difficulties, the Executive Committee of the Commune Women's Union organized many meetings to discuss and adjust the method of population communication to attract a large number of members and women to participate. Accordingly, the Commune Women's Union divided the villages into clusters and residential groups based on the characteristics of the situation, the level of convenience in transportation as well as customs and practices to organize propaganda. Strengthening coordination with departments, branches, and mass organizations of the commune, the head of the Women's Union of the village "went to every alley, knocked on every door", ensuring timely propaganda to members of the Party's policies and the State's and local laws and policies on population work.
The Commune Women's Union flexibly uses appropriate communication methods and time for each specific target group. For branches with many ethnic minority members, the association focuses on storytelling, sharing real-life situations in families and daily life so that women can easily understand and remember. Select members who are local, have a level of education, and are knowledgeable about customs and practices to support communication work.
Along with promoting families to have fewer children to raise them well, the Commune Women's Union promotes communication about reproductive health for women before and after giving birth; not choosing the sex of the fetus; gender equality; the harmful effects of early marriage, incestuous marriage... Maintaining effective activities of 2 models to prevent early marriage, incestuous marriage at the Women's Union of 2 villages: Cooc Nooc and Coc Phung.
Thanks to regular propaganda, integrated into the activities of branches, unions, village meetings..., the awareness of members and women in the commune has changed positively. Up to now, the above commune has not had any cases of child marriage.
Ms. Hu Thi Vui in Coc Phung village shared: With the propaganda from the Women's Union of the commune, the Women's Union of the village and the Commune Health Station, my sisters and I in the village taught and encouraged our children to focus on studying and not to get married before the age of majority. At the association's meetings, we listened to stories and analyzed situations in life, so it was easy to understand and remember the regulations and policies of the State and locality, especially the consequences of early marriage, incestuous marriage, having many children, and giving birth at home. I also propagated and shared the knowledge I acquired with the sisters who did not attend that meeting and with my family members.
To improve the effectiveness of DS communication work, in the coming time, the Commune Women's Union will continue to review the implemented models. Grasp the thoughts and aspirations of members and people, promptly adjust to the actual situation of the branch and locality. Apply information technology in communication. Regularly organize activities, seminars, cultural and artistic exchanges in the villages.
Ms. Doan Huong Thom - President of the Women's Union of Ban Bo commune expressed: We hope that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, the Provincial Women's Union, the Party Committee and the commune government will support funding to organize intensive training courses for grassroots propagandists on population and family planning knowledge, communication skills, and effective community outreach methods. Provide necessary equipment for communication work at the grassroots level.
Every woman has dreams and desires for a warm, happy and sustainable family. With the efforts, dedication and responsibility of the staff of the Women's Union of Ban Bo commune, we believe that the population and family planning work in the commune will continue to have positive changes.
