On the islands of Truong Sa, people strive to overcome difficulties, work enthusiastically, and join forces with soldiers to protect the island borders of the Fatherland.

Only by going directly to Sinh Ton, Da Tay A, Song Tu Tay, Truong Sa Lon islands,… can one understand the life, will, thoughts and aspirations of the people here. In the middle of the ocean, they strive to overcome difficulties to build a new life.

When we set foot on Sinh Ton Island, children from 3 to 8 years old rushed out to greet us, saying "hello teacher, hello uncle" politely, as if they had met old friends after a long time. Being given small packages of candy, the children thanked us profusely and then went together to play under the banyan tree.

The road to Sinh Ton Island is shaded by green trees, with lovely tiled roofs of buildings, schools, and houses visible.

Children playing on Survival Island

The family of Ms. Phan Nguyen Xuan Thuy (from Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa ) has become accustomed to the simple life here. Ms. Thuy said that every year, the happiest season for households on the island is "Truong Sa season" around May and June, when working groups visit the island, bringing happy stories from the mainland, visiting and encouraging officers, soldiers and households on the island.

Every day, Ms. Thuy's husband is busy with the militia and self-defense forces, while she stays at home as a housewife and takes care of her two children. Ms. Thuy confided: "Although life is still difficult, we are very happy to live in the care and love of the Navy soldiers. The military-civilian relationship is the most precious thing on the island."

Ms. Vi Thu Trang received delegates from the working delegation from the mainland visiting the island.

Like Thuy's family, Vi Thu Trang and Thai Minh Khai's family have lived on Da Tay Island for many years. Bringing out a plate of seaweed jelly to entertain guests visiting from the mainland, the young couple was as happy as if they were meeting relatives again.

"My husband and I have two children, aged 9 and 11. They always play with the soldiers. Although the material conditions are not as good as on the mainland, there is not much land for farming and raising animals, the climate is harsh... but the affection of the people and soldiers on the island is always overflowing, they are all family" - Ms. Trang said.

Houses on Da Tay A island are built spaciously.

Along with Ms. Thu Trang’s house, there are many other houses located close together, built spaciously with full facilities and household appliances. To increase production, households on Da Tay A island grow vegetables and raise chickens. Raising and caring for children of families is less difficult thanks to the support and care of Navy officers and soldiers.

Meeting with many families on the islands in Truong Sa, what we noted was their efforts to overcome difficulties to take care of their family life, join forces with the army to keep peace on the islands, and contribute to protecting the island borders of the Fatherland.

Mr. Ho Van Mung, Secretary of Nha Trang City Party Committee (left cover), visits Mr. Huynh Duc Phong and his wife.

Mr. Huynh Duc Phong and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc No (living in Sinh Ton commune) said that the island is their second home. The happiest thing is every Mid-Autumn Festival, when the officers and soldiers on the island organize lion dances and lantern parades for the children, which is very fun.

"Life on the island is no longer as difficult as before. If the solar power system can be improved to have more stable electricity, there is nothing better" - Mr. Phong confided.

According to Mr. Le Xuan Viet (living in Sinh Ton commune), life here is not as good as on the mainland, but over the years, his whole family has become accustomed to the breath of the sea, the sun, and the wind in the open sea.

Anh Viet added: "When our son was over 2 months old, my husband and I took him on a boat to the island and he has lived there until now. It was a very memorable trip because the waves were big at that time. Now he is almost 2 years old and can run around the island well."

Soldiers take care of vegetables on the island

Each point and island in the Truong Sa archipelago are the sacred marks of the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. In the simple life, with the solidarity of the army and the people, each islander is working with the officers and soldiers day and night to protect every inch of land, sea and sky of the Fatherland.

Speaking to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Dinh Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Truong Sa island district (Khanh Hoa), affirmed that Truong Sa is changing every day. Facilities and infrastructure are increasingly improved, and people's lives are better cared for. This is thanks to the attention of the Party and State, the joint efforts of people across the country, and the efforts of the army and people on the islands.

"The connection between the mainland and the island is closer. In particular, roads and trees are always taken care of and preserved so that the green color of Truong Sa archipelago is increasingly expanded, so that the offshore area of the Fatherland is increasingly more stable" - Mr. Le Dinh Hai said.
