Changes along the Ho Chi Minh Trail

Having endured long and arduous years of struggle, the Ho Chi Minh Trail has become a symbolic landmark representing the indomitable spirit of the nation. Now, the newly constructed road named after President Ho Chi Minh, passing through Thai Binh, Trung Son, and Hung Loi communes in Tuyen Quang province, not only contributes to regional transportation connectivity but also provides impetus for trade, poverty reduction, and socio-economic development in the locality.

Traveling along the Ho Chi Minh Highway from Thai Binh commune to Trung Son these days, one can see both sides of the road covered in a lush green of hills, forests, and young rice seedlings. Tall buildings are springing up close together, and the lives of the people are changing for the better. The communes that were once revolutionary base areas are now donning a new, more modern look.

The current Trung Son commune was formed from three former communes: Cong Da, Dao Vien, and Trung Son. These were all disadvantaged communes with a large proportion of ethnic minorities. Since the construction and completion of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, the people in the area have had the opportunity to improve their economic situation , and all school-aged children can now attend school.

Comrade Nguyen Van Truong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Trung Son commune, shared that with over 9,000 hectares of forest land, the development of the forest economy has contributed to changing the face of people's lives in recent years. Many wood processing factories have been established, creating jobs and stable incomes for the people. Convenient roads have also promoted trade. Economically valuable fruit trees such as pomelo, longan, and dragon fruit have yielded good harvests and fetched good prices, attracting many traders to buy them. Thanks to the convenient transportation system, the economy has gradually grown, per capita income has increased, and the cultural and spiritual life of the people has also been given attention and preserved.

In the proud pages of history, the Ho Chi Minh Trail became a vital artery for the North to support the Southern front. Today, the road named after President Ho Chi Minh, connecting Pac Bo (Cao Bang) to Ca Mau Cape, passing through most of the mountainous, remote, and isolated communes, promises a bright future.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Viet, Principal of Phu Thinh Primary and Secondary School, the Huc branch school was newly built on the Ho Chi Minh Highway. Currently, the branch school has 4 classes and nearly 100 students from the villages of But, Huc, and Nghet. Before the road was built, students and parents faced great difficulties getting to school, especially on rainy and windy days when the roads were slippery and muddy, forcing many students to miss school. The Ho Chi Minh Highway opens up a new future for the students, creating favorable conditions for them to travel to and from school regularly.

The Ho Chi Minh Highway section from Cho Chu, Dinh Hoa (Thai Nguyen province), passing through Hung Loi commune to Trung Son intersection, is the final "piece" to connect and complete the entire route. Authorities at all levels, along with local government, are accelerating the project's implementation with the determination to complete it this year. Mr. Ban Van Than, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Loi commune, affirmed that the road passing through the commune has received high consensus and agreement from the people. This provides a basis for convenient travel for residents, facilitates trade, and creates momentum for comprehensive development.

Traveling along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, one can see the revolutionary base areas transforming day by day. New, spacious houses, markets, schools, shops, and production areas are springing up everywhere... All of this seems to have given the revolutionary homeland a new lease of life. This is also the clearest evidence of a generation constantly striving to build a new life while traveling on the road named after President Ho Chi Minh.
