The Brazilian team has yet to officially qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals, after a lackluster 0-0 draw with Ecuador on June 6, in the debut match under coach Ancelotti.

Coach Ancelotti has not been able to reform the Brazilian team

With only nearly 2 weeks to lead the Brazilian team and get used to the new living conditions, veteran coach Ancelotti still cannot immediately create a miracle for Selecao, according to Spanish newspaper, AS .

"Brazil played with the same lack of energy as usual," AS said. Coach Ancelotti brought veteran midfielder Casemiro back to the midfield position, alongside Bruno Guimaraes, and sought something new with 18-year-old Estevao on the right wing. Other stars such as Vinicius and Richarlison also appeared in the starting lineup.

However, the Brazilian team under the leadership of coach Ancelotti could not create anything new against an extremely tight opponent like Ecuador and supported by tens of thousands of home fans.

Lack of ideas in attack and the unsatisfactory coordination between Vinicius and Estevao meant that Brazil could not create many notable situations. Meanwhile, at times they also had to endure the pressure of Ecuador under the command of excellent midfielder Moises Caicedo. Luckily, Brazil held their defense to avoid conceding at least 1 goal from the home team's sharp attacks.

A draw on the opening day and an away match is not necessarily a big disappointment for coach Ancelotti. The Brazilian team still holds a firm chance to officially qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals, as they are still ranked 4th with 22 points. Ecuador and Paraguay (who beat Uruguay 2-0) are ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively with 24 points.

Brazil are currently seven points ahead of seventh-placed Venezuela (Intercontinental play-off spot). If Venezuela loses to Bolivia at 5am on June 7, Brazil will secure a ticket to the 2026 World Cup with a draw against Ecuador. They will also decide their own chances if they beat Paraguay in their next meeting at 7:45am on June 11 at home in Sao Paulo.
