The 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers have 34 teams divided into 8 groups, including 2 groups of 5 teams and 6 groups of 4 teams.
The teams compete in a round robin format to determine the top 8 teams in each group to qualify for the Final Round, along with 4 teams that have already secured their spots: Australia (host of the Final Round), China, Japan and South Korea.
In the qualifying round of Group E of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, the Vietnamese women's team is in the same group with Guam, UAE and Maldives.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese girls will play their opening match against Maldives on June 29, then host UAE on July 2 and the final match against Guam on July 5.
These three matches all take place at 7:00 p.m. at Viet Tri Stadium.
If they win the top spot, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will get a direct ticket to Australia to attend the finals next year.
To prepare for the matches in Group E, the Vietnamese women's team just had a 10-day training trip in Osaka - Japan. The Vietnamese women's team won 2 matches and drew 1 match against quality "blue team" teams.
After returning home, the team moved to Phu Tho on June 18 and will have another 10 days to complete the final preparations before participating in the official tournament.
The last time the Vietnamese women's team participated in the Asian Cup finals was in 2022 in India.
At that time, the "Diamond Girls" for the first time in history passed the group stage and reached the quarter-finals, before winning a ticket to attend the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
