The injury storm has hit the Vietnamese team right before the 2023 Asian Cup. In the past time, many pillars of the team have continuously reported bad news about injuries to coach Troussier. The "Golden Star Warriors" even lost a very strong squad in the tournament in Qatar.

In the goalkeeper position, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam voluntarily withdrew from the Vietnam national team due to injury. In that context, coach Troussier had to call up young goalkeeper Van Viet to replace the goalkeeper of Binh Dinh Club.
Three key defenders said goodbye to the Vietnam national team early: Thanh Chung, Que Ngoc Hai and Bui Tien Dung. They all failed to recover from their injuries before the 2023 Asian Cup and were sent back to their clubs.
The two central midfielders Hoang Van Toan and Duc Chien also parted ways for the same reason. This is similar to the case of the two wingers Van Hau and Thanh Nhan. Hoang Duc is even racing against time to be able to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup.
On the attack line, Tien Linh proactively withdrew due to injury. Meanwhile, Phan Van Duc was not on coach Troussier's preliminary list due to a long-term injury.

That means most of the pillars of the Vietnamese team that competed successfully at the 2019 Asian Cup are absent from this tournament. Coach Troussier has promoted many young players to join the national team.
According to the plan, Coach Troussier will announce the list of 26 players participating in the 2023 Asian Cup this afternoon (January 4). The whole team will leave for Qatar for training on January 5. There, the Vietnamese team will have a friendly match with Kyrgyzstan on January 9.
At the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Indonesia. In the upcoming tournament, Coach Troussier's team will face Japan (6:30 p.m. on January 14, 2024), Indonesia (9:30 p.m. on January 19), and Iraq (6:30 p.m. on January 24).
