Materials and machinery rushed to the construction site
A series of key projects are being urgently implemented, notably the second runway project, one of the important projects that will determine the completion progress and put Long Thanh airport into commercial operation from the first half of 2026.
Currently, construction materials such as sand, stone, and crushed stone aggregate have been gathered along internal service roads. At the construction site, many engineers, workers, and specialized mechanical equipment such as rollers, bulldozers, graders, excavators, etc. are operating at full capacity. Convoys of trucks carrying materials continuously come and go, creating a bustling, bustling construction scene right in the heart of the large construction site.
The second runway was started on May 30, running parallel to runway 1. Currently, construction units are focusing on expanding and completing service roads to transport equipment and materials to the right locations, preparing for the next stages such as treating weak ground, leveling sand, spreading graded stone, and constructing the taxiway system.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) said that immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, the joint venture of contractors mobilized human resources, equipment, and material laboratories to the site and organized non-stop construction to ensure progress.
Since the beginning of May, the rainy season in Dong Nai has come early, with heavy rainfall and high frequency, directly affecting all construction activities, especially underground items such as drainage systems, tunnels, roadbeds, etc. In the face of unfavorable weather conditions, construction units have continuously adjusted plans, applied flexible technical solutions to respond promptly, and strengthened measures to ensure labor safety and construction quality. The goal is to basically complete the main items by the end of 2025 and put the airport into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
Currently, the entire construction site is mobilizing more than 13,000 engineers, workers and nearly 3,000 construction equipment and machines, creating a bustling and enthusiastic picture of labor at the largest aviation infrastructure super project in the country.

Key bidding packages simultaneously accelerate
While the second runway is entering the infrastructure construction phase, other important items at the Long Thanh project are also accelerating, closely following the overall progress.
The highlight is package 5.10, the construction of the passenger terminal. Although the contract is extended until 2026, the consortium of contractors is determined to complete the basic construction by the end of 2025. The underground and four above-ground floors of the terminal have been completed, reaching 78% of the rough construction volume. The central roof steel structure has been erected to the design height, and the roofing is expected to be completed before the official start of the rainy season. The installation of glass facades, electricity, water, air conditioning systems, etc. are also being implemented synchronously.
Package 4.6, including the first runway and apron, has been basically completed. The runway lighting system has been successfully tested, more than 3 months ahead of schedule.
Package 4.7, the construction of the aircraft parking lot, is expected to be completed before December 31, 2025, 5 months ahead of the contract. Package 4.8, the internal port traffic infrastructure, is simultaneously implementing 86 construction teams. Key items such as overpasses, tunnels, regulating lakes and auxiliary technical infrastructure systems have all been reinforced with equipment and human resources, and organized to work in 3 continuous shifts.
Despite facing many challenges from erratic weather and huge construction scale, construction work at the Long Thanh project is still taking place urgently and synchronously, shaping its appearance every day, ready for the goal of commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026, as directed by the Prime Minister .
Along with the main packages, other component projects have also achieved many positive results. Component project 1, the area of state management agencies such as Port Authority, Customs, Police, etc. is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
In component project 2, the air traffic control tower has reached a height of 107.93m out of a total design height of 115m, and is expected to be completed by the end of September. Auxiliary items such as technical buildings, VIP areas, power stations, etc. have been accelerated in terms of equipment installation from June to be completed within the year.
In the logistics area, component project 4 including cargo terminal, catering area, aircraft maintenance workshop, etc. will be fully completed by 2025.
Notably, ACV has worked directly with foreign partners, shortening the time to provide technical equipment, flight operations and terminal operating systems by 5-10 months. According to the plan, all equipment for operations will be gathered at the construction site before December 31, 2025.
