Affordable study abroad in India

VnExpressVnExpress25/11/2023

With tuition fees of $3,000-$4,000 per year, international students can pursue a Bachelor of Technology degree at one of India's best universities.

At the India Study Abroad Seminar 2023 on November 24th, Mr. Subhash Gupta, Deputy Ambassador of India to Vietnam, stated that India currently has the second largest higher education network in the world with over 1,000 universities and 42,000 colleges.

Each year, the Indian government awards 50 scholarships to Vietnamese students and over 150 scholarships for economic and technological cooperation to Vietnamese professionals.

According to Mr. Subhash, India has over 2,500 majors in STEM fields, linguistics, economics, finance, etc., and Vietnamese students can find any course that suits them. Information technology is a strong field, and most majors have affordable tuition fees.

"Tuition fees vary depending on the school and city, but compared to countries with developed education systems like the US, Australia, Canada, or the UK, I can confidently say that tuition fees at prestigious Indian schools are only one-third, or at most 40%, of those countries," said Subhash.

He stated that with tuition fees of $3,000-$4,000 (75-100 million VND) per year, international students can absolutely pursue a bachelor's degree in technology at one of India's best universities. This figure is significantly lower than that of any average university in Western countries.

Currently in the US and UK, university tuition fees for international students range from $20,000 to $60,000 per year.

Besides affordable tuition fees, the cost of living in India is also reasonable. According to statistics from the Indian Ministry of Education, the total monthly cost for an international student, including rent, food, transportation, phone bills, and personal expenses, is approximately $400 USD (over 9.7 million VND).

Another advantage for Vietnamese students is that there are 50 direct flights between India and Vietnam every week. Indian cuisine and culture are diverse, making it easier for international students to adapt.

"Thanks to cultural similarities, Vietnamese students will feel right at home when they come to India. If you're from Hanoi, you'll experience similar weather in Delhi. And if you're from Saigon, you'll enjoy the weather in Mumbai," said Mr. Subhash.

According to Manoj Kumar, Chairman and CEO of EdCIL, an educational consulting firm under the Indian Ministry of Education, over 3,000 Vietnamese students are enrolled in specialist programs and more than 1,000 others in government scholarship programs. The number of Vietnamese students studying in India independently is also increasing.

English and Information Technology (IT) are the two most popular fields of study among Vietnamese students. All courses in India are taught in English, and English language qualifications are internationally recognized. Regarding the IT program specifically, Mr. Manoj affirmed that it is quickly updated to reflect global trends.

"We have produced many leaders of international technology companies," said Manoj, adding that he will further promote the study abroad program in India in the future.

This year's Indian Education Fair features participation from 13 universities, colleges, and institutes. Many schools are offering 100% scholarships for Vietnamese students.
