The Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism) has recently partnered with The Outbox Company to implement, for the first time, a data technology application for tourism market research to monitor the international tourist market in Vietnam.
The project, named the HCMC Global Traveler Barometer (HCMC GTB), applies traveler data technology to tourism promotion activities in Vietnam, enhances research capacity and understanding of the tourism market in Ho Chi Minh City; and makes the city the first locality in Vietnam to develop its own system for tracking and forecasting target tourist markets.
Optimizing the effectiveness of tourism promotion and marketing activities.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center, the Tourist Data Tracking System project aims to optimize the effectiveness of tourism promotion activities in Ho Chi Minh City, and increase the sustainable development of the city as a destination based on data.
The visitor data tracking system focuses on forecasting the demand and availability of visitors from leading international tourist markets.
In addition, the system will periodically update the behavioral characteristics and preferences of tourists and objectively measure the image of Ho Chi Minh City as a destination in the eyes of international tourists.
This will support the tourism industry in its effective orientation, development, and promotion, enhancing its competitiveness and affirming its leading position as a pioneer in innovation, especially in the context of mergers.
In 2025, the system will pilot data tracking across 13 key markets.
The visitor data tracking system is a comprehensive and annual visitor intelligence platform for the city's tourism industry.
In 2025, the system will pilot a centralized data tracking system focusing on 13 key markets connected to Ho Chi Minh City. These markets include South Korea, Japan, Australia, China, Europe, the US and Canada, and Southeast Asia.
Specifically, this advanced data system will forecast demand; predict travel intentions to Ho Chi Minh City from various markets; update changes in tourist behavior; measure and compare the brand image and communication effectiveness of Ho Chi Minh City tourism in each market with competitors in the region.
Furthermore, traveler needs will be collected early in the planning stages and provided through specific metrics, analyzed using in-depth data analytics models, and updated regularly, no more than every six months.
Ms. Nguyen Cam Tu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center, assessed that the pioneering implementation of a system for tracking and forecasting the international tourist market affirms the position of Ho Chi Minh City's tourism after the merger, as well as demonstrating the vision of the city's tourism industry in continuously innovating and applying technology in tourism management and development.
Through this, Ms. Tú hopes that Ho Chi Minh City's tourism will develop more comprehensively, from improving its competitiveness to enhancing its image as a destination in the region.
