Developing data centers is crucial in helping organizations, agencies, and businesses ensure stable and secure operations.

According to a report at the Data Center & Cloud Infrastructure Summit, the data center market is projected to reach approximately $321 billion in 2024, with an average growth rate of 7.3%.

Information from Structure Research also indicates that the data center co-location market in the Asia- Pacific region is booming with a growth rate of 13.3% over five years, projected to reach 19,069 MW of critical IT capacity by 2028, nearly double the 2023 figure.

In its Asia- Pacific market report, Savills rated Vietnam as one of the fastest-growing data center markets in the world.

In the coming years, Vietnam is projected to experience a boom in data centers, reaching a scale of $1.27 billion by 2030, with an average compound annual growth rate of 10.8%.

In just the last two years, many data centers have been established in Vietnam. In October 2023, VNPT inaugurated what was then the largest data center in Vietnam.

This is VNPT's 8th center, equipped with the most modern technologies, with a total usable floor area of 23,000 m2, a capacity of 2,000 rack cabinets, and achieving Uptime Tier III certification for design, construction, and installation.

In April 2024, Viettel also inaugurated the Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center with a capacity of 30MW, 60,000 servers; more than 2,400 racks; and 21,000m2 of floor space.

Currently, Vietnam has approximately 33 data centers. Most of these centers belong to major domestic telecommunications companies such as VNPT, Viettel IDC, FPT Telecom, and CMC Telecom. Some centers are beginning to see participation from foreign companies such as Gaw Capital and Worldwide DC Solution (Singapore).

A significant step forward in the capital city's digital transformation roadmap.

On December 6th, Hanoi also inaugurated its Main Data Center at VNPT IDC Hoa Lac. This event marks an important step in the capital's digital transformation roadmap.

A key feature of this center is its use of private cloud computing technology, which enables data systems to operate flexibly, securely, and cost-effectively.

The security system is designed with six layers of rigorous defense, from the outside to the data storage area (Data Hall), ensuring the highest level of data security.

At the same time, the center's operational team is well-trained and holds international certifications such as CDFOM, CDRP, CDMS, CTDC, CCNA, CCNP, ensuring the system operates continuously 24/7.

In particular, the center not only serves the administrative needs of the government but also acts as a valuable asset for citizens and businesses.

More than 300 IT applications in Hanoi have been migrated to the cloud computing platform, making it easier for citizens to access online public services, from administrative registration to healthcare and education applications.

The center is also responsible for ensuring the management of the entire city's technical infrastructure system, including centralized and distributed servers at various units, managing the WAN network connecting to all departments, agencies, districts, and towns, and maintaining stable and continuous operation 24/7.

In addition, it involves developing, linking, and integrating common and specialized software to support information technology application programs in government agencies and to serve citizens and businesses.

Every day, the system processes millions of data requests from the city's IT applications. Through virtualization and cloud computing technology, everything runs smoothly, quickly, and stably.

According to experts, Hanoi is pioneering the approach of considering data as the "lifeblood" of a modern city. The central data center will play a pivotal role in building a smart city ecosystem.

Accordingly, data from transportation, healthcare, education, and environmental systems are all connected and processed centrally. This not only helps the government manage more effectively but also supports decision-making based on scientific analysis, rather than emotion.

With this project, Hanoi is expected to become a symbol of innovation and sustainability, ready to enter a new era of national progress.
