On the afternoon of March 24, Art Republik Vietnam magazine, in collaboration with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the French Institute in Vietnam, organized an exhibition of paintings by King Ham Nghi titled "Sky, Mountains, Water".

This is the largest exhibition of paintings by the patriotic king of the Nguyen Dynasty ever held in Vietnam.

21 precious paintings of King Ham Nghi gathered from 10 private collections were displayed in the space of the splendid Kien Trung Palace inside the Hue Imperial City.

With the works Afternoon on the Alps, Poplar Dawn, Cattle on the Fields... , viewers seem to feel the rustic, simple strokes but containing the nostalgia for the homeland of the exiled patriot king.

Mr. Hoang Viet Trung - Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center - said that bringing the precious paintings of King Ham Nghi back to his homeland was the result of a long and arduous journey.

For more than a year, curators Ace Le, Lan Tinh Foundation, in collaboration with Dr. Amandine Dabat (5th generation descendant of King Ham Nghi) and many domestic and foreign art units have searched for and authenticated the king's remaining paintings on the market.

"The return of the artworks created by King Ham Nghi at Kien Trung Palace is not only an emotional reunion between art and history, but also a profound tribute to the exiled king who did not lose his homeland," said Mr. Trung.

The exhibition is open to the public from now until April 6 , on the 2nd floor of Kien Trung Palace, Hue Imperial City.
