Phu Giao District: Enhancing OCOP products

In recent years, the “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program has breathed new life into the rural economy of Phu Giao district, becoming a driving force for local economic development in the direction of increasing value and sustainability. In the coming time, after merging administrative units, the entire role of organizing and implementing the program will be assigned to the commune level. With the support of the locality and the proactive spirit of OCOP subjects, this program promises to continue to make positive contributions to the construction of advanced and exemplary new rural areas in localities.

Affirming the value of local products

In the period of 2021-2024, Phu Giao district has clearly identified the OCOP Program as a key solution in the process of building advanced and exemplary new rural areas. Thanks to that, from having no OCOP products in 2020, up to now, the whole district has had 40 recognized products, of which 39 products meet 3-star OCOP standards and 1 product meets 4-star OCOP standards.

In Nuoc Vang hamlet, An Binh commune, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Khuong, owner of Phu An Khuong production and business establishment, promotes the traditional wine distillation profession with products such as cloudy sticky rice wine, Morinda officinalis, Polyscias fruticosa, Ganoderma lucidum, Chinese hawthorn, and wild banana. "Each type of wine is brewed from local medicinal herbs, with its own flavor, not only for enjoyment but also to promote indigenous culture," Mr. Khuong shared. In An Long commune, An Gia Farm of Mr. Ho Hoang Hieu is developing circular agriculture from Ganoderma lucidum. Ganoderma lucidum is cared for using automatic sensor technology, no chemical fertilizers, no growth stimulants. From the source of reused old rubber wood to the water from inspected wells, every stage is guaranteed to be clean and safe. The products are dried by solar energy, retaining the active ingredients and characteristic smell, packaged with full traceability, aiming at the international market. “Each mushroom spawn is like a seed of livelihood; building standard processes such as ISO, VietGAP, HACCP... helps products easily access international markets,” said Mr. Hieu.

Ms. Nong Thi Quy, Deputy Director in charge of production at Phu Giao Farm (Phuoc Sang Commune), Vinamit Joint Stock Company, a unit that has just had organic water spinach and organic Malabar spinach products recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards in 2025, shared: Vinamit's organic water spinach and Malabar spinach are clean vegetable products grown and produced according to organic standards, without using toxic chemicals and packaged in a clean and convenient environment for use in cooking. The OCOP program has supported producers to improve techniques, apply science and technology , improve designs, packaging, and build brands, thereby improving the quality and competitiveness of products in the market. Currently, Vinamit's products are not only stably consumed in Binh Duong but are also available on e-commerce platforms.

New position for the facility

According to the leaders of Phu Giao district, the highlight in the implementation of the OCOP Program is the synchronous participation from authorities at all levels to the people. OCOP subjects in the district are increasingly dynamic and creative. In the recognition of OCOP standard products in early 2025, there were 10 completely new products and 2 re-certified products, including melon and guava. The participating subjects are very diverse, from cooperatives, business households to small enterprises and farms. Typical OCOP products and production models associated with the locality are spreading strongly, associated with cultural preservation, environmental protection and enhancing local agricultural products.

The OCOP program is entering an important transition phase in Phu Giao district. With the official transfer of all organization, management and implementation of the program to the commune level, this is considered a golden opportunity for grassroots localities to affirm their pioneering and proactive role in developing a sustainable rural economy .

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Trong Hieu, Director of Thanh Kien Guava Agricultural Cooperative (Phuoc Hoa Commune), the owner of the 3-star OCOP product, shared: The commune-level government is close to the people and understands the characteristics of each raw material area, so the procedures for production units are faster, such as quick paperwork, timely labor supply, and job creation for local workers... Mr. Hieu expressed his wish to have more financial support mechanisms and enhance product management capacity for units. These supports help OCOP entities improve their competitiveness and expand their markets, contributing to bringing their products further.

Phu Giao district leaders said that in the coming time, the OCOP Program will be handed over to the commune level. The commune level will not only be the unit organizing the implementation of the OCOP Program but also the nucleus in building typical products, creating momentum for sustainable rural economic development from the grassroots level.

Mr. Van Quang Chinh, Vice Chairman of Phu Giao District People's Committee, emphasized that in order for the OCOP Program to develop sustainably in the new period, the communes after the merger need to quickly accept and promote new roles, proactively build typical products, and promote rural economic development. OCOP entities need to constantly improve their capacity and vision, invest in improving product designs and quality, expand markets, and strengthen production and consumption links, with the goal of bringing the district's OCOP products to maintain their position in the province, reaching regional and national levels...
