Elon Musk funds Gina Carano's lawsuit against Disney for removing her from 'The Mandalorian'

tThe cause was a social media post in which Gina Carano compared a Republican to Jews during the Holocaust during World War II. Elon Musk is funding the lawsuit, following a promise to fund legal action taken by those who were discriminated against by Twitter/X posts. However, the posts in question all originated from Gina Carano's Instagram.

The lawsuit, filed in California Federal Court (USA), alleges wrongful termination and discrimination, as well as asks the court to force Lucasfilm to re-cast Carano in The Mandalorian and pay at least $75,000 in damages.

"As a sign of X Corporation's commitment to freedom of expression, we are proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano's lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her right to free speech at X and her ability to work without being bullied, harassed, or discriminated against," Joe Benarroch, head of business operations at X, said in a statement.

Gina Carano played Cara Dune, a rebel fighter turned mercenary, in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian , streaming on Disney+. However, she was criticized for sharing an Instagram post in February 2021.

"Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors, even children. Because history has been edited. Most people today do not realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their neighbors hate them simply because they were Jews. That is no different than hating someone because of their political views," Gina Carano wrote.

The same day as the post, Lucasfilm and UTA, Carano's management company at the time, dropped her from the film. However, UTA is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges Disney was at fault for Carano's former management company firing the actress.

Carano's lawsuit says Disney and Lucasfilm "have made it clear that only consistent thought, speech or action is acceptable within their 'empire' and that those who dare to question or fail to fully comply will not be tolerated."

The plaintiffs point to past social media posts by Star Wars actors Pedro Pascal and Mark Hamill, but Disney turned a blind eye to the actors' political statements.
