Meta has just announced the rollout of paid plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp globally. The company is also testing its Meta One service, aimed at businesses, content creators, and Meta AI users.
The social media subscription packages include Instagram Plus ($4/month), Facebook Plus ($4/month), and WhatsApp Plus ($3/month). Payee subscribers get access to additional features such as profile customization, new interactive icons, story data viewing, and other benefits.
In a video posted on Instagram on May 28th, Naomi Gleit, Meta's Chief Product Officer, revealed that the platform will be adding "more exciting features" to its paid plans in the future.
Benefits for loyal users
The Plus packages are designed specifically for each app. Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus focus on self-expression on social media, while WhatsApp aims for personalization and message management. Instagram Plus allows tracking the number of people who re-view stories, expanding the audience for stories to unlimited, instead of just close friends.
Users can also select a featured story each week to increase views, extend the story's display time beyond 24 hours, secretly preview other people's stories (without displaying their names in the viewer list), and search for specific viewers within a story. The paid plan also allows posting directly to profiles and featured stories. These posts will not appear in the feeds of their followers.
Other features of Instagram Plus include the "Super Heart" emoji in stories, app icon changes, profile summary font customization, and an increased number of pinned posts to the top of the profile page. According to Meta, these features are intended to better serve content creators, in addition to those who want to increase their followers and better understand their audience's preferences. Of course, they also attract a high volume of Instagram users.

Facebook Plus offers similar benefits to Instagram Plus. Meanwhile, WhatsApp Plus provides features such as changing the app's interface, custom ringtones, pinning important messages, customizing message lists, and exclusive stickers. Previously, Meta confirmed plans to offer a paid service, with several testing phases underway since the beginning of the year. The paid package aims to serve active users who want more features on the social network.
After years of release, the app market has become saturated globally, and opportunities for new user growth are limited. According to TechCrunch , the new model helps Meta diversify its revenue streams beyond advertising by leveraging the value of its billions of existing users.
Meta noted that the new packages do not replace Meta Verified. The old service still focuses on identity verification, anti-spoofing, and other support. According to the WSJ , the paid packages launched a week after Meta laid off 10% of its 78,000 employees, partly to cover AI costs. The company plans to invest $145 billion this year, primarily in building data centers and AI chips.
Paid packages for AI users and businesses.
For Meta AI users, the company is testing two new service packages: Meta One Plus ($8/month) and Meta One Premium ($20/month). Both packages offer similar features. However, the Premium package expands the reasoning capabilities for complex tasks and increases the limits for image and video creation.
Meta AI features generally remain free for regular users. The subscription plan follows a similar approach to many competitors, charging for increased usage. The paid Meta AI package is expected to be tested in June in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia. In the future, subscriptions will offer more benefits for users of AI smart glasses.

Meta also announced two paid AI packages for businesses and content creators, scheduled for testing in select markets starting in late May. The first, Meta One Essential (priced at $15/month), includes a verified blue tick for account authentication and a dedicated space to connect users' social media channels.
Meta One Advanced, which is more expensive ($50/month), includes all the benefits of the Essential plan. With this advanced plan, the channel owner's content is highlighted in the Facebook news feed, appears higher in Facebook and Instagram search results, and includes a highlighted "Follow" button when viewing Reels. The system also automatically sends follow requests to viewers who interact with the content.
Channel owners can direct users to their website or store through links in Instagram posts and Instagram Reels. More detailed competitor and audience analytics data is also provided.
Users of the Advanced plan have access to advanced post scheduling tools and can share access with other moderator accounts without a password. The system also sends notifications when content is reposted by other users, allowing channel owners to request attribution. According to Gleit, Meta is still testing new AI plans. The company aims to consolidate everything under the name Meta One in the future.
