Thang Long Festival 2025: International tourists enjoy the sitting tug of war competition

Sitting tug of war, a unique festival heritage of the Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2025, attracts international tourists with its traditional rituals associated with agricultural life and cultural space imbued with Vietnamese identity.

Last weekend, thousands of locals and international visitors gathered in Hanoi to attend the Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2025, a cultural event with a strong historical and community impact, highlighted by traditional tug-of-war matches that have existed for hundreds of years.

From early morning, the Tran Vu Temple area (Long Bien) became the center of the festival. Not only Hanoians but also foreign tourists enthusiastically participated and cheered for the tug-of-war matches - a folk game associated with the spiritual life of many Vietnamese villages.

The highlight of this year’s festival is the sitting tug-of-war competition, a traditional ritual that has been preserved for generations. Two teams sit opposite each other, holding onto a large rope symbolizing strength – solidarity – and community cohesion./.
