The prestigious travel magazine Travel + Leisure has just announced a list of the 25 best countries for solo travelers, in which Vietnam is ranked in the top 5 outstanding destinations.
The report is based on safety, ease of travel, friendliness of people and unique cultural and natural experiences.
Travel + Leisure highlights that solo travel is becoming a global trend, as more and more people seek “freedom, independence and self -discovery ” through independent journeys.
In that trend, Vietnam is considered one of the most potential destinations, not only because of its natural beauty but also because of its safety, friendliness, hospitality, rich cuisine and authentic experiences that are hard to find elsewhere.
According to Travel+Leisure, Vietnam offers a "full" experience for solo travelers: from natural wonders to unique indigenous culture.
Tourists can cruise Bai Tu Long Bay with its “cool turquoise waters”, explore Son Doong Cave - one of the largest natural caves in the world or stroll in Hoi An on a moonlit night to admire thousands of lanterns shining brightly along the Thu Bon River.

In Hanoi, the old streets and Hoan Kiem Lake offer a mix of traditional and modern life, perfect for solo travelers to explore on foot.
Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City, Ben Thanh Market, along with historical destinations such as the Cu Chi Tunnels, make the journey of a solo traveler rich and memorable.
In addition to Vietnam, this list also includes famous destinations such as Iceland, Germany, Costa Rica, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Australia, Norway, Ireland... Each destination is highly appreciated for its convenient transportation system and ability to bring a sense of safety to tourists.
Previously, in 2024, Time Out - the UK's leading travel magazine - also ranked Vietnam in the top 9 safest destinations in the world for female solo travelers.
According to this list, Vietnam is the only country in Southeast Asia to make it to this list. The remaining destinations include Sri Lanka, Portugal, Czech Republic, Japan, Guatemala, Australia, Greece and New Zealand.
Time Out also suggests Vietnam as a destination with diverse natural landscapes and cultural heritage. On the long journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, Hue and Hoi An are must-visit destinations to experience.
Time Out editors also suggest exploring the ancient villages of Hoi An, famous for its slow pace of life and tranquil atmosphere. Don't forget to enjoy the cuisine of Hue, which was once the capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam.
“When it comes to the safest destinations for women traveling alone in Southeast Asia, Thailand and Vietnam are always the top two, but Vietnam is still a better start,” Time Out commented.
Thanks to political stability and low violent crime rates, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are also ideal destinations for expats.

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), in October, international visitors to our country reached 1.73 million arrivals, up 13.8% over the previous month and up 22.1% over the same period last year.
In the first 10 months of 2025, international visitors to Vietnam reached nearly 17.2 million, an increase of 21.5% over the same period last year.
The number of international visitors to Vietnam in October and the first 10 months of 2025 continued to record positive signals, reflecting the strong recovery of the tourism industry after a difficult period due to the pandemic and global economic fluctuations.
In the first 10 months of 2025, Asia remained the key market, accounting for the highest proportion with 13.618 million visitors, up 21% over the same period. This reflects Vietnam's position as a leading destination in the region, especially attracting tourists from Korea, China, Japan and ASEAN countries.
The second market is Europe with 2.127 million visitors, a sharp increase of 34.9%, this is the highest increase in the regions, and is also a positive signal showing that the market far from Vietnam is recovering quickly, thanks to the expanded e-visa policy and campaigns to promote the image of Vietnamese tourism in European countries.
Along with the increase in international visitors, tourism revenue in the first 10 months of 2025 is estimated at VND 77,400 billion, up 19.8% over the same period in 2024; revenue from accommodation and catering services is estimated at VND 695,100 billion, up 14.6%.
Key tourist destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Khanh Hoa and Phu Quoc all recorded a steady increase in international arrivals compared to the same period last year. Many new tourist destinations, experiential tourism products, green tourism, and cultural tourism have been systematically invested in, contributing to attracting visitors to stay longer and spend more.
In general, Vietnam tourism in 2025 will continue to grow comprehensively in most market areas, especially Asia and Europe. This result demonstrates the effectiveness of the open-door policy, visa expansion and international promotion activities, and affirms that the goal of welcoming over 20 million international visitors in 2025 is completely feasible./.
