Since mid-May, small "Street Name Information" signs with QR codes have appeared on the streets of Dong Trieu town ( Quang Ninh ) parallel to the main street name signs. The QR codes are 8cm x 8cm in size, affixed to the right of the secondary signs, facing the road; the signs all have international languages in addition to Vietnamese to serve foreign tourists.
To learn about this sign, Ms. Tran Thanh Huyen, who lives near Tran Nhan Tong Street, Zone 2, Dong Trieu Ward, Dong Trieu Town, used her smartphone to open the QR application, and the phone immediately displayed information about the route location, related historical information as well as the biography of the character Tran Nhan Tong. Ms. Huyen was quite interested in looking up information about the biographies of the characters associated with each street name from the QR code because this is a new way of doing things in Dong Trieu Town.
Nearby, on Le Hong Phong Street, a group of students from Dong Trieu High School also used smartphones to scan QR codes from street name information boards. One student shared that looking up information about a character's biography from a QR code is a creative way, helping us look up information very quickly, serving well for studying history.
Comrade Nguyen Dinh Thang, Secretary of Dong Trieu Town Youth Union, said: “Implementing the digital transformation policy of Quang Ninh province, we have deployed QR codes on all street and road name signs in the area; contributing to creating conditions for people and domestic and foreign tourists to better understand the scale of the route, local traditions, biographies of famous people, introducing famous landscapes and historical relics associated with the construction and development process of Quang Ninh province in general and Dong Trieu town in particular. In the coming time, we will continue to research and expand to public entertainment venues, nearby parking lots, markets, supermarkets, famous landscapes and relics, etc.; thereby combining the introduction and promotion of the culture and history of the homeland of the fourth war zone Dong Trieu”.
The operation to look up information from QR codes is quite simple, the lookup person only needs to download or install specialized QR code lookup software such as QR code Reader, QR Scanner..., or use built-in software on mobile devices such as Zalo QR. For smartphones, just turn on the camera to scan the QR code. QR codes are made of very durable reflective paper material, not affected by weather, very sensitive so information can be retrieved immediately.
Installing street name signs with QR codes is a new way to both contributeto education and propaganda about historical values, and demonstrate civilization and modernity towards connecting multi-dimensional information.
