On July 18th, representatives from Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital announced that they had successfully removed seven maggots from the nose of a 60-year-old female patient, TTT, residing in Phu Tien village, Ky Anh commune, Ha Tinh province, using endoscopic surgery.
Ms. T. had previously been brought to the hospital by her family for examination with symptoms of bleeding and discharge from her left nasal cavity.

After examination, doctors examined the left nostril and discovered a suspected stone-like mass accompanied by a large amount of bloody fluid. They then found a suspected foreign object resembling a stone, along with numerous maggots, in the nasal cavity.
The patient was taken to the operating room for laparoscopic surgery, where seven maggots were removed, each measuring 1 cm in length and 2 mm in diameter. The doctors also removed the entire stone mass.
After the maggot infestation and nasal cavity stones were successfully removed, the patient's health stabilized.

According to family members, six months ago the patient experienced nasal congestion and a stuffy nose but did not seek medical attention, instead self-treating with saline solution, which only worsened over time.
According to Dr. Le Thi Ha, Head of the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department at Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital, this is a rare case because inadequate hygiene created favorable conditions for the larvae to develop into maggots.
Furthermore, patients often overlook the condition and ignore the first unusual symptoms, leading to late detection when the eggs have already developed into maggots.
