Recently, Van Don Regional General Hospital ( Quang Ninh ) successfully performed laparoscopic surgery to remove a teratoid cyst on the right ovary of an 80-year-old woman named PTB.
Previously, the patient was admitted to the hospital with a dull, persistent abdominal pain that affected her daily activities. Upon admission, the doctors conducted an examination and ultrasound and discovered that the old woman had a right ovarian cyst measuring 51x60 mm, requiring early intervention to avoid the risk of compression and complications.
Recognizing that this was a case of a large cyst in an elderly patient, the surgical team chose endoscopic cyst dissection technique, which helps to intervene accurately, limit damage to healthy tissue and reduce the risk of bleeding.

Laparoscopic surgical team removed ovarian cyst from 80-year-old woman.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Bui Thanh Tuan - Deputy Head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine and Obstetrics, Van Don Regional General Hospital, along with other doctors and anesthesia team. After more than 1 hour of surgery, the tumor was separated and removed, preserving the surrounding structure.
Thanks to the advantages of minimally invasive, less painful, highly aesthetic, and quick recovery of endoscopic surgery, patients quickly stabilize after surgery and soon return to normal activities.
Ovarian cysts are a common disease in women, including the elderly. Most cysts do not have obvious symptoms in the early stages, causing many people to only discover the tumor when it has grown large, causing abdominal pain, ovarian torsion or ovarian rupture - dangerous complications that can be life-threatening. Therefore, when there are unusual symptoms, patients need to go to a medical facility immediately for timely diagnosis and treatment.
