Lai Chau province has a large land area, rich sources of agricultural and forestry raw materials, a dense river and stream system, and a terrain suitable for hydropower and processing industry development. To effectively exploit the available potential, on June 1, 2020, the Provincial Party Committee issued Action Program No. 41-CTr/TU to implement Resolution No. 55-NQ/TW dated February 11, 2020 of the Politburo on the orientation of Vietnam's National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. In particular, the province identifies the goal of effectively developing the potential and advantages of renewable energy sources associated with environmental protection, contributing to ensuring energy security, socio-economic development, and national defense and security.

Workers of Nam Lum 2 Hydropower Plant (Ban Lang commune) operate electricity production.
The province has implemented many suitable solutions to develop renewable energy. Mr. Vuong The Man - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: From 2021 to 2025, the province has completed 46 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 913 MW, bringing the total number of completed power generation projects to 68 projects with a total capacity of 3,196.2 MW. Hydropower projects have been and are performing well, contributing over 8,600 million kWh to the national grid, more than 1,500 billion VND/year to the provincial budget and creating jobs for local workers. At the same time, hydropower plants also contribute to cutting and reducing floods in downstream areas, regulating water for daily life, production, aquaculture development, and tourism .
Typically, the hydroelectric plants: Nam Lum 1, Nam Lum 2, Nam Xe, invested by SCI Lai Chau Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Khong Lao commune), have been operating and generating electricity with a total designed capacity of 46MW. Mr. Nguyen Quang Sang - Director of the above hydroelectric cluster shared: Every year, the amount of electricity produced by the plants is quite stable, creating jobs for 36 workers, with an average salary of 12 million VND/person/month.
Regarding the processing industry, the province has the potential to develop raw material areas to meet the processing industry such as: tea, rubber, macadamia, cinnamon, lake fish farming... Processing enterprises have paid attention to investing in modern machinery and equipment, ensuring production according to the process, meeting quality standards according to market requirements. On the side of the Department of Industry and Trade, it has deployed support for the application of advanced machinery and equipment in agricultural processing for 8 facilities; supported the construction and registration of trademarks for 18 products; supported packaging design for 3 products; advised the Provincial People's Committee to recognize 21 agricultural products as typical rural industrial products at the provincial level. With the advantages and support from the province, the province's processing industry has made quite a development step. The growth rate is 18%/year, reaching nearly 4,400 billion VND, accounting for 11.9% of the total industrial production value and contributing 0.8% to the province's GRDP.

Tan Uyen commune has a large tea area that provides raw materials for the processing industry.
Mr. Do Viet Trung - Director of Tay Bac Agricultural Materials and Seeds Company Limited said: "The company has 2 tea factories. Each year, we produce an average of 4,000 tons of dry tea, exporting to the Middle East and China markets... Since the beginning of the year, we have exported 3,000 tons of dry tea. The company is creating jobs for 30 workers, with a salary of 9-12 million VND/person/month".
Realizing that e-commerce is an important factor in opening up opportunities for production, business and consumption of goods, especially highland specialty products, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with relevant departments, branches and localities to deploy many solutions to promote e-commerce, support the connection of OCOP products, agricultural products of the province such as: Tea, rice, medicinal herbs, honey, fish, cordyceps... to e-commerce platforms such as: Shopee, tiktok shop to promote, introduce, connect consumption and export. The Department also supports businesses and cooperatives to bring 78 OCOP products and agricultural products to the province's product origin traceability management system.
In particular, the Provincial People's Committee's Advisory Department coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize the event "Promoting regional linkages in e-commerce development - Enhancing products of the Northern Midlands and Mountains" attracting nearly 1,000 visitors to experience and shop directly at the booths, attracting over 50 million livestream views, with total sales revenue of 1.5 billion VND. Sales activities on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and TikTok shop are promoted by Viettel Lai Chau Post Branch.
Thanks to the development of processing industry, clean energy, and e-commerce in the right direction, the province's industry in the 2020-2025 period has continued to develop, accounting for a large proportion of the province's GRDP structure. The average growth rate reached 9.2%/year.
In the coming time, our province will continue to promote the implementation of the Party and State's policies on energy development, processing industry and e-commerce. The focus is on planning and developing raw material areas associated with processing; strengthening the organization of conferences connecting supply and demand, promoting trade; strengthening the linkage of the "4-house" value chain; developing new-style cooperatives...
With confidence in the results achieved and the right direction, Lai Chau province will continue to develop the industrial sector. From there, it will increase the value of industrial production, promote economic restructuring towards modernity, environmental friendliness, associated with digital economic development and national digital transformation.
