Because the liver does not have a sensory nervous system, when the patient discovers abnormal signs, it is usually in the late stages. Typical signs of fatty liver disease that have progressed to a more serious stage (cirrhosis) include: Prolonged fatigue, lack of energy even though the patient still eats regularly, has adequate nutrition and always rests properly. In theory, scientists have compared the liver to an extremely effective detoxification "factory" and also has the function of metabolizing nutrients to nourish the body. Therefore, when the liver is weakened, nutrients can no longer be converted into energy, which will make the body of the person with fatty liver always feel tired, lack of dynamism for no apparent reason; uncontrolled weight loss. This is a very important stage, because the liver can no longer synthesize protein, causing cirrhosis; the next phenomenon is loss of appetite, fear of fat. The reason is that the liver's ability to secrete bile has become poor, unable to metabolize fat, causing the body to respond with a feeling of fear of eating. In addition, the phenomenon of jaundice, mild yellow eyes but lasting... is also a warning sign for the liver. According to oncology specialists at Ca Mau General Hospital, it is because bilirubin in the blood is not filtered out and begins to accumulate in the skin. That can warn that the liver is starting to be damaged in a severe stage. Many patients always have itchy skin, in some areas of the skin there are folds and darkening, the cause is that toxins accumulate in the liver, but the liver cannot process (eliminate), then the skin will have external reactions such as: persistent itching, especially in the neck and back area; biceps and even dark skin in the armpits, neck... due to melanin disorders. One of the typical signs of a person with fatty liver in the severe stage is a slight pain in the right lower rib cage. Because the pain is only mild and fleeting, not severe, especially after eating or lying on the right side, it makes the patient more subjective. Doctors say that this is the time when the liver is slightly inflamed or enlarged and another equally warning sign is that the patient always has sleep disorders, such as: Difficulty sleeping for a long time, not sleeping deeply and waking up early, accompanied by anxiety, irritability for no reason, and memory loss.
Talking about this issue, Dr. Nguyen Hong Cau, Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control of Ca Mau province, informed: “In fact, fatty liver not only causes damage to the liver, but it also leaves many serious complications such as hepatitis, cirrhosis and even cancer. According to statistics from the global health sector, up to 30% of patients have fatty liver disease but it is not caused by alcohol or beer, and if these patients are not treated promptly, the risk of severe hepatitis is very difficult to avoid”.
Dr. Nguyen Hong Cau also added: “These complications are also known as: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Meanwhile, the symptoms are not clear, so it is difficult for patients to detect their own disease. In fact, fatty liver is not a disease that only appears in obese people, but even people with thin or average body shape can be infected with this dangerous disease. Therefore, fatty liver disease needs to be treated early, because the longer it is left, the higher the risk of liver fibrosis is.”
Cirrhosis is one of the common complications in patients with fatty liver, especially those with stage 3 fatty liver. Obviously, this is a disease that cannot be ignored, because the patient can completely suffer from complications leading to liver cancer, due to lack of timely monitoring and treatment. At that time, the treatment results will not be as expected.
