Meeting to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Pho Rang Victory

On the morning of June 26, Pho Rang town (Bao Yen district) held a meeting to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Pho Rang Victory (June 26, 1949 - June 26, 2024).

Attending the meeting were the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, People's Committee of Bao Yen district; representatives of the Provincial Military Command; Liaison Committee of Phu Thong Battalion; leaders of Bao Yen district, Pho Rang town through the periods; and a large number of cadres and people of Pho Rang town.

At the meeting, Secretary of Pho Rang Town Party Committee - Pham Anh Tuan read a speech commemorating the old Pho Rang Victory: In early May 1949, our army launched the Song Thao Campaign to break the enemy's defense line stretching from Nghia Lo to Bao Ha - Pho Rang - Nghia Do - Quang Binh, breaking the enemy's threat to our Viet Bac base. The defeat of Pho Rang post played a particularly important role in ensuring the victory of the Song Thao Campaign, destroying the enemy's defense area in the Northwest region. Participating in the Pho Rang battle, we deployed the main attacking force as the Phu Thong Battalion (now Battalion 11), Battalion 79 and Battalion 54.

At exactly 6:00 p.m. on June 24, 1949, the battle of Pho Rang began. Our artillery fired heavily at the enemy's fort, suppressed the gun emplacements, and cut off the enemy's communication with the outside. After capturing the satellite bunkers and the paratrooper camp, Company 301 (Phu Thong Battalion) attacked the outpost, creating conditions for our infantry to open the door to attack the targets. From the South, our troops divided into 3 attack prongs. The battle between us and the enemy was extremely fierce. After more than 40 hours of continuous fighting, with the fierce offensive spirit and bravery of the soldiers, by June 26, 1949, our troops had completely controlled the battlefield, most of the enemy troops were destroyed, a small part fled towards Lao Cai .

With the Pho Rang Victory, our army and people recorded another brilliant feat, contributing significantly to bringing the Song Thao Campaign to complete victory, destroying the enemy's important defense line, liberating more than 60 ^square kilometers and tens of thousands of people of the Northwest ethnic groups from the enemy's yoke.

The historic Pho Rang victory recorded the names of 36 martyrs and 59 wounded soldiers, recognizing the great contributions of the people of all ethnic groups in Bao Yen at that time.

Inheriting and promoting the spirit of diligence and creativity in production labor, resilience and indomitability in fighting against foreign invaders, over the past 75 years since the victory of Pho Rang battle in 1949, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Pho Rang town, Bao Yen district have been and are continuing to steadily move forward in the cause of innovation, industrialization, modernization of the country, and building a civilized urban area.

Pho Rang land - where the fierce battle took place in the past - has now become the political , economic, cultural and social center of Bao Yen district. After 75 years of construction and development, Pho Rang town has made great breakthroughs in all fields, rising with new vitality, new appearance, more spacious, more beautiful.

The work of building the Party and the local political system has been focused on all three aspects: ideology, politics and organization. "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" associated with the implementation of the Resolution of the 4th Central Committee of the 11th and 12th terms has created a positive change in the awareness and actions of cadres, party members and people. In economic development, the average annual growth rate of the town from the beginning of the term to the end of 2023 reached over 13%. Average income per capita by the end of 2023 reached more than 65.7 million VND/person/year. Budget revenue in the locality increased nearly 2 times compared to 2020. All social aspects in the locality have developed comprehensively. Hunger eradication and poverty reduction work has been drastically implemented. The average annual poverty reduction rate reached 0.13%. National defense and security in the locality are maintained.

In 2020, Pho Rang town was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting the standards of a type V urban area. The locality continues to improve the criteria to meet the standards of a type IV urban area with the function of being the political, cultural and tourist center of the district.

At the meeting, delegates reviewed history, shared feelings, beliefs and expectations that the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Pho Rang town will continue to promote the traditions of their homeland, strive to build and develop the revolutionary homeland to become increasingly developed and beautiful.

On this occasion, Pho Rang Town Party Committee launched the book "History of Pho Rang Town Party Committee from 1945 to 2020". The book consists of 6 chapters, reflecting quite comprehensively and honestly many achievements of Pho Rang Town Party Committee throughout its history.
