Mr. NTH (62 years old, living in Tien Giang ) was gardening when a swarm of honey bees stung him many times on his head, neck, chest, back...

After being stung by a bee, Mr. H. had a rash all over his body, felt short of breath and was very tired. His family immediately took him to Xuyen A General Hospital in Vinh Long for emergency treatment.

On February 13, specialist doctor Tong Minh Nhut, Head of the Department of General Internal Medicine, Xuyen A General Hospital, Vinh Long, said that when the patient was admitted to the Emergency Department, he was in a state of extreme fatigue, difficulty breathing, red rash all over his body, blood pressure was difficult to measure, and pulse was difficult to detect. Doctors and nurses quickly performed emergency treatment and removed nearly 50 bee stings from the patient's body. The stings were mainly concentrated in the patient's head, neck, shoulders, arms and chest. After 5 minutes of emergency treatment, the patient had a pulse and blood pressure again.

The patient was then transferred to the General Internal Medicine Department for continued monitoring and intensive treatment according to the Ministry of Health 's protocol. After 24 hours of treatment, the patient's health gradually stabilized and he was discharged from the hospital.

Bee stings are removed from various locations on the patient's body.

Doctor Minh Nhat said that honey bees are relatively benign bees, however, when stung, depending on the number of stings, the patient will have symptoms such as pain at the sting site (very painful), hives, anaphylactic shock causing difficulty breathing, hypotension, and more seriously, cardiovascular collapse (severe anaphylactic shock not treated promptly). Every year, the hospital receives emergency care and treats hundreds of cases of patients with anaphylactic shock due to bee stings, including honey bees, hornets, etc.

"In case of a bee sting, quickly clean the wound, use a hard object to gently remove the stinger (do not squeeze it with your hands) and immediately go to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment. Absolutely do not use folk remedies without instructions from a doctor," Dr. Nhat advised.
