Reports from Washington D.C.: An unprecedented election.

This year's race for the White House has become an unprecedented US presidential election due to the unique characteristics of the two candidates.
In this election, US Vice President Kamala Harris became the fourth person in American history to run for president under one of the two largest parties. She is also the second woman, after Hillary Clinton, to officially represent one of the two parties in a presidential election.

Ms. Harris is the first Black woman to run for president of the United States. Furthermore, before officially running for office, Ms. Harris held the highest political position in American history, having served as Vice President. Her achievements are further recognized as the first female attorney general of San Francisco County (California), and then the first female attorney general of California.

In contrast to Harris, Donald Trump also stands out as a presidential candidate with many rare characteristics. Historically, Trump is only the third former president to run for re-election. Grover Cleveland and Theodore Roosevelt preceded him. Of these two, only Cleveland won re-election as president, becoming the only one to date to serve two non-consecutive terms as president. Therefore, if Donald Trump wins the 2024 election, he will become the second former president, and the first Republican, to return to the White House. However, Trump also possesses some less positive "firsts." These include: the first impeached president to be re-elected, and the first convicted criminal to be elected president.
