Domestic coffee prices today August 19, 2025
On the morning of August 19, the domestic coffee market continued to increase. In the Central Highlands, the common purchase price was from 117,100 - 117,600 VND/kg.
Coffee prices in the Central Highlands continued to increase today after a flat weekend, up 300 VND/kg compared to yesterday, to 117,100 - 117,600 VND/kg.
Of which, coffee prices in Dak Nong recorded an increase of 300 VND/kg, up to 117,800 VND/kg - the highest in the region.
In Dak Lak , the transaction price increased by 300 VND/kg, currently trading at 117,600 VND/kg.
Next, coffee price in Gia Lai stood at 117,500 VND/kg, an increase of 300 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, Lam Dong is the locality with prices increasing by 300 VND/kg, trading at 117,100 VND/kg.
The recent sharp price increase, according to Mr. Nguyen Huu Long, Director of Vietnam Coffee Academy Joint Stock Company (VCA), stems from a shortage of supply in the market. Mr. Long emphasized: “No one can push up prices if there is an excess of goods out there.” However, he also said that there was intervention from “sharks” in the market, when the amount of goods in the warehouses of the big companies is still very large, while farmers have almost sold out.
Forecasting future coffee prices, Mr. Long said that Vietnam will start harvesting the new crop in about 2 months, and in 3 months the supply will be more abundant thanks to favorable weather. Therefore, he predicted that the price of coffee next crop will fluctuate between 70,000 - 100,000 VND/kg, unless there are unusual weather conditions in Brazil that cause a shortage of supply.
In addition to price fluctuations, the Vietnamese coffee industry also faces major challenges from international regulations. The European Union (EU) Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) will officially take effect from December 31, 2025. This regulation requires coffee shipments to have a clear traceability system, proving that they are not related to deforestation. If not prepared in time, Vietnamese coffee can easily be eliminated from the supply chain worth tens of billions of dollars.
To meet this challenge and increase value, businesses need to urgently invest in digital technology for growing areas, linking with cooperatives and households. Farmers also need to strongly shift to sustainable farming.
At the same time, instead of only exporting green beans, businesses should focus on deep processing, promoting roasted and ground products, and instant coffee to take advantage of the 0% tariff under EVFTA. This is the decisive moment for the Vietnamese coffee industry to transform from a "production powerhouse" to a value powerhouse, aiming for an export target of 6-7 billion USD/year in the coming period.
