World coffee prices on the two futures exchanges continued to maintain an upward trend, robusta had its third consecutive increase this week and reached a record high of nearly 5,500 USD/ton.

Domestic coffee prices today, September 26, range from 120,800 to 122,000 VND/kg. The market fluctuates, with coffee trading being quite quiet due to scarce supply.

Analysts said that global coffee prices have increased since the beginning of the week due to many factors strongly affecting the market. Among them, concerns about adverse weather in major producing countries such as Brazil and Vietnam are putting pressure on supply, pushing prices up not only in the short term. Robobank has just said that the extremely dry situation in Brazil has not improved and forecasts another dry week before rains. Rainfall in Brazil has been consistently lower than average since April, causing significant damage to coffee trees during the crucial flowering stage, reducing the prospects of the country's 2025/26 arabica crop.

Brazil’s 2024/25 coffee harvest is complete and export shipments are being delivered to customers. But logistics bottlenecks in the top producer and exporter continue to contribute to increased demand in the spot market.

Concerns about congestion in Red Sea ports causing difficulties in transportation, along with a weak US dollar, are factors pushing up coffee prices.

According to the General Department of Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 1.06 million tons of coffee, worth 4.01 billion USD, down 12.1% in volume, but up 35.6% in value over the same period last year thanks to a sharp increase in export prices.

As the world’s largest producer of robusta coffee, accounting for one-third of the global supply, fluctuations in Vietnam’s production and supply have a major impact on the global coffee market. Vietnam’s declining output has contributed to a shortage of robusta coffee in the international market and pushed up market prices.

Currently, the world price of robusta coffee has reached 5,446 USD/ton, a record high. This also supports the coffee price in the Central Highlands provinces to reach an unprecedented high when preparing to enter the new crop harvest.

Currently, in the country, coffee is preparing to enter the new harvest season. Experts recommend that people should prepare processing, drying and drying facilities well to ensure that coffee beans are preserved in the best way in case of adverse weather. Harvesting unripe coffee can reduce the output of clean coffee and affect the reputation of Vietnamese coffee in the long term.
