"5 gains" of the campaign to support the Cuban people

Over 467 billion VND to support the Cuban people

Speaking to the press, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, stated the "5 benefits" of the campaign to support the Cuban people:

In terms of politics and foreign affairs, the program affirms Vietnam's consistent and humane foreign policy, contributing to deepening the friendly, trustworthy, and exemplary brotherly relationship with Cuba.

In terms of humanitarian spirit and social values, the program has aroused gratitude, solidarity and international responsibility of the Vietnamese people.

In terms of scale and results, after nearly 2 months of launching, the program attracted nearly 2.2 million participants, the amount received through the 2022 account exceeded 467 billion VND. This is one of the campaigns with a short duration but the largest scale and number of participants ever, both domestically and internationally.

Regarding the media, thousands of articles, TV shows, reports, livestreams, and millions of shares have created a "wave of Vietnam - Cuba affection" spreading throughout the country and abroad.

In terms of organization, the program affirms the core role of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in international humanitarian work, a bridge of trust between the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and the people.

According to the report at the meeting, launched on August 13, after only 30 hours the campaign to support the Cuban people reached 65 billion VND (100% of the initial target).

As of 10:00 a.m. on October 8, the total amount received through account 2022 reached 467 billion VND, with more than 2 million donations, not to mention 55.9 billion VND transferred through the Red Cross system of provinces and cities. The top 5 provinces and cities with the highest donations are: Quang Tri, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Thanh Hoa.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh emphasized: "The Cuban people will decide how to use this money most effectively. This is a gift from the Party, State and people of Vietnam, demonstrating the loyal and steadfast affection between the two nations." He expressed his hope that the program to support the Cuban people will not stop on October 16, but will continue to let the Vietnam - Cuba friendship shine through future projects, exchange activities, cultural and tourism cooperation...

According to information at the meeting, the campaign to support the Cuban people received strong responses from all levels, sectors and all classes of people, becoming a deeply humane social phenomenon. Many creative response models were deployed: songwriting contest "Vietnam - Cuba: Forever the song of friendship", friendly football matches, online community groups calling for fees to support Cuba, and hundreds of activities spreading throughout the country.

In the coming time, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Cuba in Vietnam and the Cuban Red Cross Society to implement the transfer of support resources and information on the results of their use in Cuba. Organize a program summary, commend outstanding collectives and individuals, and compile a report on the results to submit to the leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front. Continue to widely communicate the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, prepare for donation activities and friendly exchanges during the visit to Cuba by the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation at the end of 2025.

New ways to support people in flood-affected areas

At the meeting, Mr. Cao Xuan Thao, Head of the Social Mobilization Committee, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, informed: On October 2, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front organized a launching ceremony and issued an appeal to support people to overcome the consequences of storm No. 10. At the launching ceremony, organizations and individuals registered to donate 673 billion VND. As of 5:00 p.m. on October 8, the total amount of registered donations reached nearly 800 billion VND. Many organizations and individuals directly donated at the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (46 Trang Thi, Hanoi) or transferred money to the account of the Central Relief Mobilization Committee.

The Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has sent an appeal letter and instructions for receiving it to ministries, departments, branches, organizations, and localities, and publicly posted it on newspapers and social networks. Up to now, the Fatherland Front Committees in 34 provinces and cities have launched, responded, and organized donations, creating a strong ripple effect throughout society.

On October 3, the Central Relief Mobilization Committee allocated 265 billion VND from the Central relief fund to support 17 provinces and cities to overcome the consequences of storm No. 10. Previously, on September 30, 5 heavily damaged provinces were supported with 2.5 billion VND.

Mr. Cao Xuan Thao emphasized that this mobilization work has many innovations. For the first time, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front coordinated with Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup) to deploy a support package of 500 billion VND to 16 affected provinces and cities, ensuring publicity, transparency, and the right beneficiaries. Working groups directly surveyed at the grassroots level, coordinating with the local Front to visit each household. In addition, the Front also opened two groups of accounts to meet the different needs of supporters: public groups and anonymous groups.

"Up to now, more than 39% of donors have chosen to donate anonymously," said Mr. Thao.

After a week of launching, the total amount of registered donations reached nearly 800 billion VND. Many artists, businessmen, and influencers participated in charity activities, music nights, and fundraising sports tournaments, contributing to spreading the spirit of "mutual love and support - towards the Central and Northern regions".

In the coming time, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will continue to promote mobilization work in many forms, ensuring transparent, timely, and appropriate reception, management, and use, while publicizing the support list down to the commune level for people to monitor.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Organizations, said that all the donations for Cuba and people in flood-affected areas will be transferred to the correct addresses and people in need, without any leakage or loss.

He emphasized that both movements stemmed from the benevolent and affectionate hearts of the Vietnamese people. "Our people have a passionate patriotism, which is a precious tradition of our nation. That tradition shines even brighter in difficult times, when we share with our fellow countrymen affected by floods and send our affection to the Cuban people," he said.
