After considering the proposal from the People's Committee of Hoi An City and the Department of Construction regarding the extension of the construction contract for the restoration of the Japanese Bridge, the Provincial People's Committee agreed in principle to extend the construction contract for this project by an additional 180 days to complete the remaining work and volume.
The Provincial People's Committee assigns the Hoi An City People's Committee (the investor) the responsibility to re-examine the legality of Construction Contract No.
On December 26, 2022, the city assigned the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Conservation Management Center to sign a contract with the construction contractor. Based on the signed construction contract with the contractor, the center will inspect and determine the causes affecting the contract progress, and impose penalties for contract delays if they are due to subjective reasons on the part of the contractor.

Simultaneously, organize negotiations and sign an addendum to the contract with the contractor to adjust the contract execution time, ensuring that it does not exceed the project execution time approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 834 dated April 5, 2024. It should be noted that extending the contract execution time does not result in any additional construction costs compared to the signed contract.
In addition, they will calculate and plan the detailed progress of the remaining work items and quantities, and urge and direct the construction contractor to focus on accelerating the progress of the project, ensuring quality and timely completion of the project as extended, for acceptance, handover, commissioning, and final settlement of the completed project in accordance with the law.
The Provincial People's Committee also requested that the departments (including Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction, Culture, Sports and Tourism) and other relevant sectors and units, according to their assigned functions and duties, be responsible for monitoring, guiding, inspecting, and supervising the Hoi An City People's Committee during the implementation of the project to ensure progress, quality, and compliance with the law.
Previously, in December 2023, the People's Committee of Hoi An City decided to temporarily suspend the restoration of the floor of the Japanese Bridge (the walkway under the Japanese Bridge) due to differing opinions.

The project to renovate the Bridge Pagoda has a total budget of 20.2 billion VND and a construction period of 360 days. The project commenced on December 28, 2022.
The Japanese Bridge (Chùa Cầu) is a unique architectural masterpiece and a distinctive symbol of the Hoi An World Heritage Site. Historically, the Japanese Bridge has spanned four centuries and undergone seven major and minor renovations.
