According to Mr. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chairman of Hoi An Ward People's Committee, the ward will take drastic measures to protect the tourism environment, not letting tourists be bothered by business activities that do not follow the common standards in the old town.

The street gradually became clear again.

One of the areas where urban order is most determined to be resolved is the streets on the south bank of the Hoai River. Here, for a long time, especially during the months when the government focused on merging and establishing a two-level government apparatus, many bars set up tables and chairs to encroach on the road.

A few months ago, Nguyen Phuc Chu Street was also full of street vendors and beggars. Recently, thanks to the presence of law enforcement, the situation has significantly decreased.

On both sides of the Japanese Covered Bridge, many businesses that encroached on the sidewalks were also dealt with harshly. A Hoi An resident said the most chaotic months were June and July, when many beggars came from other places.

In particular, the number of street vendors is very large, some people bring conical hats and souvenirs to occupy the sidewalk to set up stalls, creating an ugly image on the walking street. However, the situation has recently decreased thanks to the presence of functional forces.

Chairman of Hoi An Ward People's Committee Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed that the order of the old town was affected during the period when centralized agencies were merged and specialized forces were dissolved...

Since the stabilization of the apparatus, the campaign has been carried out very vigorously to restore a peaceful and safe image for tourists to stroll.

"Since July, the forces have been working under a lot of pressure. If we let our guard down, the situation will be chaotic. We have assigned each team to take charge of each street corner and alley, and with the support of the police, the situation has gradually returned to order.

The current situation requires each person to do more than their actual assigned tasks, all for the sake of the old quarter space" - Mr. Cuong said.

Returning the tourism environment to Hoi An

Not only in the old town, after stabilizing the operation of the apparatus, the authorities of the wards and communes in Hoi An have actively handled tourism order.

Many prominent and long-standing cases were resolutely handled, such as the situation of loud karaoke singing in restaurants along the shrimp ponds along the Co Co River, and the situation of mobile speakers being pulled up on baskets and then out into the middle of the Cam Thanh coconut forest to shout boisterously.

Mr. Nguyen Sau, a resident of An My tourist village (formerly Cam Chau, now Hoi An Dong), said that since Hoi An Dong ward dealt with the situation of restaurants along the Co Co river allowing customers to sing loudly, the situation has become quiet again.

"I run a hotel business, the villa is located right next to a peaceful rice field. Before, restaurants had to turn on loud speakers from noon to late at night. For the past 2 months, it has been almost completely quiet, tourists are very comfortable" - Mr. Sau said.

Chairman of Hoi An Dong Ward People's Committee Tran Tan Dung said the noise caused by portable speakers carried on baskets in Cam Thanh coconut forest has been going on for many years. Partly because visitors to the coconut forest like a lively and boisterous atmosphere.

The government has designated some areas where music can be played at moderate volume, away from residential areas. The forces also regularly patrol and handle the situation, so the situation has improved somewhat.

"In the near future, we will arrange mobile speaker locations further away to return a quiet environment to the community," said Mr. Dung.

In addition to the noisy karaoke speakers, many tourists visiting Cam Thanh coconut forest also reported the chaotic situation, soliciting tourists; many tourist establishments led tourists to skip buying entrance tickets. Hoi An Tay Ward said that they regularly sent forces to monitor and supervise to handle the situation thoroughly.

Communes and wards in Hoi An join hands to develop tourism and preserve heritage.

From July 1, the old city of Hoi An was divided into 3 wards and 1 commune. To ensure the heritage is seamless, on October 17, leaders of Hoi An Dong, Hoi An Tay, Hoi An wards and Tan Hiep island commune sat down together to sign a coordination charter.

According to the regulations, communes and wards will work together in efforts to develop the economy and preserve cultural identity...

To continue the seamless connection of Hoi An that has been maintained for hundreds of years, the wards said they will discuss and come together to agree on any activities that have an impact on changing the space.

The parties will also join hands to promote tourism, assign foreign exchanges with international friends, organize events to stimulate tourism, etc.
