Dak Lak urgently sets up 4 quarantine checkpoints to prevent African swine fever
Faced with the threat of African swine fever, Dak Lak province is urgently strengthening preventive measures to protect livestock and maintain the stability of the local livestock industry.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, since the beginning of the year, African swine fever has broken out in 113 households in 62 villages in 33 communes and wards. As a result, 1,391 pigs have been destroyed, with a total weight of nearly 92 tons. Currently, there are still 26 communes and wards in the province with outbreaks that have not passed 21 days. The cases are mainly concentrated in small-scale, household-scale livestock farms.
The Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that the risk of the disease will continue to spread and break out more strongly in the coming time. Experts point out many main causes:
Small-scale livestock farming is still common: The lack of biosecurity measures makes it easy for pathogens to survive and spread.
Unstable weather: Harsh weather conditions weaken the resistance of livestock, creating opportunities for pathogens to attack.
Lack of awareness of disease prevention in some households: Some cases do not comply with disease prevention regulations such as not reporting in time, or even throwing diseased pig carcasses into the environment, creating the risk of widespread spread.
Limited management system: Some commune-level localities lack veterinary specialists and have not signed contracts with grassroots veterinary services. This makes it difficult to monitor disease outbreaks and control slaughter.
Livestock trade: The continuous transportation of livestock and animal products between Dak Lak and neighboring provinces increases the risk of disease intrusion and spread.
To prevent the epidemic from spreading into large outbreaks, seriously affecting production and people's lives, strict control of the epidemic situation is extremely urgent.
