Pig prices are on the decline due to weak purchasing power.
After falling sharply at the end of last week, the price of live pigs has moved away from the 60,000 VND/kg mark and is gradually narrowing the gap with Chinese pork prices. According to a survey, the price of live pigs in the North is no longer above 60,000 VND. Of which, Yen Bai and Lao Cai continue to trade at the lowest level in the region at 58,000 VND/kg. The remaining localities commonly trade at 59,000 VND/kg.
The price of live pigs in the Central Highlands region has also stabilized on the first day of the week after continuously decreasing at the end of last week. Currently, localities including Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan are purchasing at 57,000 VND/kg. The remaining localities are trading at 58,000 VND/kg.
Pig prices in the South have also stopped falling and are moving sideways across the board. However, the downward pressure on prices is still quite large as farmers are selling a lot of pigs at this time. Pigs in Long An and Tra Vinh provinces continue to be purchased at VND56,000/kg. The remaining provinces and cities maintain purchasing prices in the range of VND57,000 - 58,000/kg.
Currently, the price of Chinese pigs has also recovered to 55,500 VND/kg, the difference is only 2,000 VND/kg lower than the price of Vietnamese pigs, so the possibility of smuggling across the border has also decreased.
Not only pork but also chicken and duck prices have decreased at this time because of the reduced demand during the vegetarian season of the majority of people. Besides, other foods such as seafood are also cheap, so consumers have many options in the current difficult economic context and declining income./.
