Gia Lai announces the planning of Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone

On June 19, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province held a conference to announce the Master Plan for the construction of Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone until 2045.

Previously, on June 4, 2025, the Prime Minister signed a decision approving the Master Plan for the construction of Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone until 2045. The above plan includes the entire town of Chu Ty and the communes of Ia Kla, Ia Dom, Ia Nan, Ia Pnôn of Duc Co district, Gia Lai province, with a total area of ​​about 415.15 km2.

The objective of the Plan is to specify the planning for the construction of the Vietnam - Cambodia border area, the planning for the construction of the Central Highlands region, the planning of Gia Lai province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 and other specialized planning approved by the Prime Minister . Exploiting the potential advantages of the western region of Gia Lai province, in order to promote economic development, improve land use efficiency, quality of life and environmental protection.

Building Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone into a dynamic economic zone of Gia Lai province, with synchronous technical and social infrastructure, meeting the requirements of a dynamic international border gate economic zone, sustainable development, contributing to socio-economic development, improving the lives of border residents on the basis of preserving the natural ecosystem, associated with strengthening national defense - security and protecting national sovereignty...

According to the Plan, by 2030, the economic zone is expected to have about 55,000 people, land for construction of functional areas is about 2,825 hectares, of which residential development land is about 676 hectares, agricultural land and other functional areas are about 38,690 hectares.

By 2045, the population of this area is expected to be about 75,000 people. The land for construction of functional areas is about 3,279 hectares, of which residential development land is about 749 hectares, agricultural land and other functional areas are about 38,236 hectares.

Regarding spatial development orientation, it will include: Sub-zone 1 - Le Thanh border gate urban area is a comprehensive economic center, trade services, border gate trade exchange (1,512 ha). Sub-zone 2 (Chu Ty town) - district center, plays the role of administrative, political, economic - cultural, trade and service center of Duc Co district, has an important position in terms of national defense - security of Gia Lai province in particular and the Central Highlands region in general (1,545 ha).

This is also the central urban area connecting with the Le Thanh international border gate economic zone; is an important trading hub and transit point for goods and tourists on the East-West corridor between Vietnam and Cambodia. This subdivision ensures the provision of logistics services for the activities of the border gate area; is a place connecting tourism with the border districts of the province and a stopover for international tourists through the Le Thanh international border gate.

Along with that is the rural residential area associated with agricultural development, community tourism, and indigenous cultural experience services.

The project also identifies synchronous development directions for transport infrastructure, irrigation, electricity, telecommunications, education, healthcare, culture, etc., while aiming for sustainable development, associated with protection of resources - environment, national defense - security in border areas.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Trinh, Head of the Gia Lai Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, said that in the coming time, the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board will continue to coordinate with departments, branches and local authorities to focus on implementing zoning planning, detailed planning, and specialized technical infrastructure planning on the basis of the approved master plan; perfecting the set of tools for urban development management in the economic zone, including architectural management regulations and planning information systems. Proactively calling for and promoting investment, building a list of key projects, prioritizing the development of transport infrastructure, electricity supply, water supply, environmental treatment, logistics centers, border trade, etc. At the same time, the Board will create all favorable conditions for businesses and investors, promote administrative reform, publicize planning and project information.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Que emphasized that the Planning Project approved by the Prime Minister will be the legal basis for the province to focus on infrastructure investment, border economic development, trade, logistics, urban areas and sustainable agriculture in the border area, promoting the development of Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone to become the driving force of the western region of the province, a strategic trade gateway of the Central Highlands with ASEAN countries via the East-West corridor. Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Que added that Gia Lai province has identified the implementation of the Planning as a key, continuous and priority task in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Agency - Ministry of Finance Truong Minh said that the Foreign Investment Agency is committed to always closely accompany Gia Lai province, proactively coordinate to promote the image, potential, and investment opportunities in the Economic Zone to the business community, domestic and foreign investors through national investment promotion channels, international forums and conferences; support connecting strategic investors, introduce large corporations and enterprises with financial potential, high technology and modern management experience to learn, research and implement projects.
