Impersonating a hospital and posting an article calling for donations of 2 billion VND

Recently, some fake Facebook pages have used the name and information of Thu Duc General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Thu Duc City Hospital) to profit by calling for charitable donations.

The fake Facebook fanpage used the name, address, phone number and official website of Thu Duc General Hospital to call for financial contributions.

Specifically, this fake news site posted an article calling on people to donate to help a child named T. (4 years old), who had an accident and needed brain surgery and was in critical condition, with treatment costs of up to 2 billion VND.

Not only that, the fake Facebook also added that "the hospital has established a fund from staff members with nearly 300 million VND" but still needs more support from the people because the amount is not enough. The account number posted with the appeal post is listed as belonging to T's mother.

This is an act of taking advantage of the hospital's reputation, playing on the sympathy of many people, causing public confusion.

Notably, this fake news site also updates many other daily activities of the hospital, creating a "glossy" shell that makes many people mistakenly think this is really a legitimate news site.

The sophistication of this form of fraud has caused many people to "fall into the trap". In the comment section of the article calling for philanthropists, many people transferred money to the bank account number that this fake page publicly announced with the belief that it would help those in difficult circumstances.

Specialist Doctor 2 Hoang Van Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of Thu Duc General Hospital affirmed that the hospital does not carry out any charity calling activities through unofficial Facebook fanpages. At the same time, it does not authorize any individual or organization to solicit sponsorship without public announcement on the hospital's official media channels.

People should be vigilant, absolutely do not provide personal information, do not share and especially do not transfer money to accounts linked from fake Facebook pages.
