DNVN - On October 30, 2024, coffee prices increased sharply by 1,500 - 1,600 VND/kg, reaching about 110,000 - 110,700 VND/kg. Pepper prices also increased by 1,000 - 1,500 VND/kg, trading around 143,000 - 144,500 VND/kg compared to the previous day.
Coffee prices are up
At the end of the trading session on the London Stock Exchange on October 30, 2024, Robusta prices decreased slightly to 4,170 - 4,398 USD/ton. Specifically, the contract for delivery in January 2025 reached 4,398 USD/ton, down 104 USD/ton; the contract for delivery in March 2025 was 4,312 USD/ton, down 98 USD/ton; the contract for delivery in May 2025 was 4,244 USD/ton, down 93 USD/ton; and the contract for delivery in July 2025 decreased 85 USD, to 4,170 USD/ton.
Meanwhile, on the New York floor, the price of Arabica coffee on the morning of October 30, 2024 continued to increase slightly, fluctuating from 243.25 - 248.10 cents/lb. Specifically, the December 2024 term reached 248.10 cents/lb, down 1.68%; the March 2025 term was 247.25 cents/lb, down 1.63%; the May 2025 term was 245.85 cents/lb, down 1.62%; and the July 2025 term was 243.25 cents/lb, down 1.60%.
For Brazilian Arabica coffee, the price for December 2024 delivery was 300.75 USD/ton, down 0.27%; March 2025 was 300.80 USD/ton, down 0.35%; May 2025 was 301.00 USD/ton, down 1.75%; and July 2025 was 297.45 USD/ton, down 1.73%.
Domestic coffee prices continue to increase
At 5:00 a.m. on October 30, 2024, domestic coffee prices increased by 1,500 - 1,600 VND/kg, trading in the range of 110,000 - 110,700 VND/kg. The average purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces reached 110,400 VND/kg, with Dak Nong recording the highest level of 110,700 VND/kg.
In detail by region, coffee price in Gia Lai (Chu Prong) reached 110,500 VND/kg, an increase of 1,500 VND/kg compared to yesterday; in Pleiku and La Grai, the price was 110,400 VND/kg. Kon Tum currently recorded 110,500 VND/kg, also an increase of 1,500 VND/kg compared to the previous day. In Dak Nong, the highest price reached 110,700 VND/kg, an increase of 1,600 VND/kg compared to the previous day.
Green coffee beans in Lam Dong , in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha, were purchased at 110,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,500 VND/kg compared to the previous day.
Coffee prices in Dak Lak, specifically Cu M'gar district, were recorded at around VND110,500/kg, an increase of VND1,500/kg; while Ea H'leo district and Buon Ho town both reached VND110,400/kg.
According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam exported 21,500 tons of coffee, worth 125.8 million USD in the first half of October 2024. Compared to the first half of September, the export volume increased by 0.4%, and the value increased by 7.5%. Notably, compared to October 2023, the export volume increased by 20.5%, and the value increased by 98.0%. In summary, from the beginning of the year to mid-October 2024, coffee exports reached about 1.13 million tons, worth 4.44 billion USD, down 11.1% in volume but up 39.1% in value compared to the same period last year.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thang Loi Coffee, Mr. Do Hoang Phuc, said that the company has turned from loss to profit in the third quarter of this year. Due to the sudden increase in domestic coffee prices, purchasing has become difficult, leading to a decrease in export volume.
In the third quarter of 2024, businesses did not purchase as much goods as before, but thanks to the volume of inventory from the previous crop at good prices and reduced costs, profits increased sharply compared to the same period last year.
Pepper prices rebound
On October 30, 2024, pepper prices in the Southeast recorded an increase of 1,000 - 1,500 VND/kg, trading around 143,000 - 144,500 VND/kg; the highest price was in Dak Nong and Dak Lak.
Accordingly, in Dak Lak, pepper price was purchased at 144,500 VND/kg, an increase of 1,500 VND/kg compared to yesterday. In Chu Se (Gia Lai), pepper price reached 143,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to the previous day. Dak Nong today recorded 144,500 VND/kg, an increase of 1,500 VND/kg.
The Southeast region recorded fluctuations in pepper prices, specifically, Binh Phuoc reached 143,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday; while in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the price is currently at 144,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg.
Thus, domestic pepper prices today in key regions have rebounded strongly, recording the highest price of 144,500 VND/kg, fluctuating between 143,000 - 144,500 VND/kg.
According to a report from the International Pepper Community (IPC), the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper is currently at 6,681 USD/ton, down 0.64% compared to yesterday, and the price of Muntok white pepper is at 9,146 USD/ton, down 0.65%.
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was listed at USD 6,400/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper reached USD 8,500/ton; while Malaysian ASTA white pepper was recorded at USD 11,000/ton.
Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 g/l is at 6,500 USD/ton; 550 g/l is at 6,800 USD/ton; and white pepper is at 9,500 USD/ton.
Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam's pepper exports have averaged $5,005 per ton, up 50.1% over the same period last year. Export turnover reached $1.04 billion, surpassing the $1 billion mark for the first time in eight years.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, the average export price of pepper in the first 15 days of October exceeded 6,500 USD/ton, up 0.7% compared to the previous month and 67.6% compared to the same period last year, marking the highest level since March 2017.
Although export volume decreased by 2.5%, the turnover still increased sharply by 46.4%, reaching 208,776 tons. This clearly demonstrates the strong development and potential of the Vietnamese pepper industry in the international market.
