Musang King price drops sharply due to unstable quality
Musang King durian, which peaked at VND120,000/kg at the beginning of the season, has now dropped to only VND55,000-60,000/kg in many regions. The reason is that erratic weather has increased the rate of salt and water stagnation, affecting quality and consumption.
Durian export trade recovers
After a sluggish start to the year, durian exports to China are increasing sharply. June reached more than 300 million USD, three times the total turnover of the first 4 months of the year. July is forecast to reach 350-400 million USD, bringing the total export turnover for the first 7 months of the year to more than 1 billion USD.
On average, businesses export 35–40 containers of fresh durian to China each month. Quality control activities have been tightened from the purchasing stage at the garden to packaging to meet new import standards.
Although exports are recovering, competitive pressure remains high as many countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos are also participating in the Chinese market. In addition, durian growing areas in Vietnam and Thailand continue to expand, making supply abundant and prices unlikely to return to the peak of the 2023–2024 period.
