According to information from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), as of more than half of February 2025, Vietnam has successfully exported 7,535 tons of pepper, with a total turnover of 51.5 million USD.
In the first months of 2025, the US and Germany took the lead in Vietnam's pepper consumption, with imported pepper reaching 2,829 tons and 1,326 tons, respectively. However, the Chinese market has not shown signs of strong recovery, causing pepper exports to not have a significant improvement.
VPSA also believes that the outlook for the global pepper market in 2025 will continue to be positive. Pepper output is forecast to decrease amid extreme weather conditions affecting productivity in many countries. This creates opportunities for the pepper export industry, especially in the Chinese market, which, despite low pepper imports from Vietnam in 2024, is expected to see increased demand as soon as Vietnam enters its main harvest season.

According to statistics, Gia Lai province currently has about 7,500 hectares of pepper, with an average yield of about 3.5 tons/ha. Recently, pepper prices have increased, along with relatively stable yields, so farmers are very excited.
However, despite the sharp increase in pepper prices, pepper growing areas have decreased significantly over the past decade. The reason is believed to be that pepper was previously susceptible to disease and farmers have switched to other crops such as coffee and durian, which are more economically efficient.
According to experts, although the increase in pepper prices has helped Gia Lai farmers improve their income, they should not expand their acreage massively but should focus on improving product quality. The pepper market is cyclical, the current high price is an opportunity but also poses risks if production is not sustainable. Farmers need to apply organic farming, control diseases and cooperate with businesses to ensure stable output.
