Update pepper information

According to estimates from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam's pepper exports in July 2025 reached 22,000 tons, worth 143 million USD, down 5.8% in volume and 9.4% in value compared to the previous month, but up 1% in volume and 10.4% in value compared to the same period last year.

In the first 7 months of the year, pepper exports reached 145 thousand tons with a turnover of 991 million USD, down 11.6% in volume but up 29.9% in turnover over the same period in 2024.

Mainly due to the average export price in 7 months increasing by nearly 47%, to 6,823 USD/ton. In July alone, the export price reached an average of 6,502 USD/ton, down 3.8% compared to the previous month but up 9.2% compared to July 2024.

In the domestic market, pepper prices in the second quarter recorded many erratic fluctuations, reflecting the market's sensitivity to policy factors and business psychology.

The price decline became more evident when information about the US import tax on Vietnamese pepper spread, causing many export enterprises that had completed previous orders to choose to limit purchases, leading to weakened demand in the domestic market.

In addition, VPSA said that the factor that made the market even more sluggish was the fact that the amended VAT Law officially took effect from July 1. Due to the lack of specific guidance from the tax authorities, many businesses fell into a passive position in their transactions and declarations, leading to a psychology of delaying purchases.

Sharing with us, Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), said that in the second half of this year, pepper prices will increase again thanks to the need to build up inventories again in major markets, especially the US.

Accordingly, in the first half of this year, pepper exports were quite slow, especially in the second quarter due to complicated tariff situations. Demand for pepper was compressed to the maximum level in the first half of the year, causing an increase in the scarcity of goods.

"Factory operations must be continuous, and there cannot be a situation where there is no inventory. They can 'hold off' buying for 3 months, but they cannot hold off for a whole year. Importers are forced to return to the market to replenish supply, and the market is gradually improving," said Ms. Lien.
