When implemented, the new policy will contribute to attracting investment, promoting production along the value chain, applying science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation in tea production, processing, and trading.
The new policy will support people and businesses in many aspects, from production to consumption, including: tea cultivation; certification of good agricultural practices (VietGAP, other GAP standards); organic production; building and certifying quality management systems; granting tea growing area codes; applying water-saving and smart irrigation systems in tea production; purchasing machinery and equipment for tea production and processing; registering intellectual property protection; developing tea products and other tea-related products certified under the OCOP standard; promoting, building brands, and facilitating trade and consumption of tea products and other tea-related products; and developing community-based ecotourism associated with tea-producing areas.
Specifically, tea growers will receive 100% financial support for purchasing seedlings; and a one-time subsidy of 70% for purchasing fertilizers. When growing according to VIETGAP and organic standards with a minimum area of 5 hectares, growers will receive 100% financial support for the initial certification…
Thai Nguyen province has the largest tea growing area, yield, and production in the country. After the merger, Thai Nguyen province has nearly 24,000 hectares of tea plantations, of which nearly 23,000 hectares are producing tea, with an average yield of nearly 180 quintals/hectare; 207 processed tea products have received OCOP certification from 3 to 5 stars. The province aims to achieve a total value of tea products of 25 trillion VND by 2030.
Previously, in February 2025, the former Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee issued a thematic resolution on the development of the tea industry for the period 2025-2030, setting out four specific objectives: improving product quality; developing tea cultivation area and production; developing export markets, especially demanding markets such as Europe, the US, and Japan; and developing tea tourism by connecting tourism with tea production, exploiting the potential of ecotourism and tea experiences to enhance the brand value of Thai Nguyen tea.
The new policy is expected to create a strong impetus, helping the Thai Nguyen tea industry develop comprehensively, not only contributing to the province's major economic goals but also playing an important role in the new rural development program.
