The unique value of Finnish Literature Week in Vietnam

At Kim Dong Publishing House (Hanoi), Finnish Literature Week - Exhibition Tove Jansson & Moomins 80 is taking place, opening a series of activities taking place from July 11 to 20.

The program is organized by Kim Dong Publishing House in coordination with the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam and The Initiative of Children's Book Creative Content (ICBC) to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first work about the character Moomin by writer Tove Jansson.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Vietnam - Mr. Keijo Ensio Norvanto - shared: Finnish Literature Week offers the public, especially children, the opportunity to participate in many activities such as exhibitions, book readings, film screenings, workshops, painting... to explore the creative, profound and unique world of Finnish literature.

The Moomin stories reflect the spirit and core values of Finnish culture, demonstrating their enduring vitality and ability to inspire over time. The Ambassador expressed his hope that Moomin will continue to receive the affection of Vietnamese readers.

Moomin is a Nordic cultural icon, beloved by millions of readers through nine classic novels rich in poetry and humanity by writer Tove Jansson (1914–2001).

In Vietnam, Kim Dong Publishing House has published and introduced 8 of the most prominent Moomin works translated by Vo Xuan Que and edited by Dr. Bui Viet Hoa, including: "The Witch's Hat", "The Invisible Child", "The Mumis at Sea", "Mysterious Winter", "Mumi and the Comet", "Dangerous Summer Solstice", "The Amazing Adventures of Mumis Dad" and "November in Mumis Valley".

Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien - Deputy Director, Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House said that this is the first time Vietnamese readers have the opportunity to explore the life and world of Moomin vividly through art exhibitions, creative readings and book launches.

Finnish Literature Week is an opportunity for the public, especially families and children, to access a part of Europe's unique literary heritage. The works presented are all unique in their own way, but together they open up a world rich in love, promoting freedom, enjoyment and individuality.

Through the Moomins and Tove Jansson's works, readers experience literature rich in emotion, humanity and imagination - the typical values of Finnish literature.

Many rich activities for children and readers who love literature are organized within the framework of the week. The opening is a Moomin reading session and tea party with Ms. Teija Norvanto - Wife of the Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam, taking place on July 11. Here, children from 5 years old and up can listen to stories and interact in the Moomin 80 exhibition space, thereby inspiring the joy of reading and approaching Finnish culture.

On the morning of July 12, a reading program called "Hello Ruby - Exploring the World of the Internet" was held for children aged 5 to 9. This is a globally famous technologyeducation book series by author Linda Liukas, helping children become familiar with basic concepts of the Internet and digital skills through creative hands-on activities.

Then, on July 13, two consecutive activities took place. In the morning, there was a reading program of "The Amazing Adventures of Mumu" combined with a special animated film showing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Moomin. In the afternoon, there was a reading activity of "The Sorcerer's Hat" combined with a craft activity of "Moomin House" for children to freely express their personal creativity by drawing, coloring, modeling clay...

On July 19, the next two activities will be held. In the morning, the reading program "The Moomin Family at Sea" is an opportunity for children to explore a new and emotional journey of the Moomin characters. In the afternoon, Kim Dong Publishing House will launch the book "The Last Mermaid - Echoes from the Legend of the Ocean" by author Iida Turpeinen. This is a non-fiction literary work that raises big questions about the relationship between humans and nature. The launch will be attended by writer Di Li and Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), for readers aged 15 and over.

In addition to the main events, the Organizing Committee also organizes an experience program specifically for preschool and primary school students. Educational and reading promotion activities are designed to be attractive, helping children approach the world of Moomin in a complete and creative way.
