DTO - The Provincial People's Committee has just issued a Decision approving the Plan for managing commercial pangasius farming areas in Dong Thap province until 2030, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as the Plan).
Pangasius fish, the province's strong industry
The objective of developing the Plan is to exploit and make maximum use of the potential advantages of area, science and technology and resources in an effective, sustainable and climate change-adaptive manner. At the same time, create products with added value, contributing to the structural shift in the agricultural sector; harmonizing with the development of other economic sectors; creating jobs, increasing sustainable income for people.
Accordingly, the development orientation by 2030 is to have a water surface area for raising pangasius reaching 3,000 hectares (equivalent to 4,615 hectares of natural area); the total output of farmed pangasius reaching 801,000 tons. The average growth rate of farmed pangasius output in the period 2026 - 2030 is 5.6%/year. The value of pangasius production by 2030 is to reach 13,056 billion VND; attracting a labor force for commercial pangasius farming of about 6,900 workers.
The vision for 2050 is to promote industrialization and modernization in a market-oriented, environmentally friendly manner, promote regional connectivity; adapt to climate change; ensure disease safety, biosafety, meet domestic and export market requirements; aim for a digital economy, circular economy, and green economy. On that basis, maintain the water surface area until 2050 and increase output to 900,000 tons.
To achieve the set goals, the Provincial People's Committee requests the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to organize the announcement of the Plan; develop a plan to implement the Plan. Organize the implementation of tasks, projects, programs related to the management of commercial pangasius farming areas in Dong Thap province until 2030, with a vision to 2050 in accordance with the objectives of the Plan; review and supplement mechanisms and policies to increase investment attraction for the development of commercial pangasius and pangasius fry production according to the objectives and orientations of the Plan. At the same time, develop a plan to inspect and supervise the implementation of the Plan; periodically evaluate the implementation, review and adjust the Plan according to regulations.
Provincial departments and branches, according to their assigned functions, tasks and powers, proactively coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the People's Committees of districts and cities to arrange human resources and propose policies and mechanisms to effectively implement the objectives of the Plan, ensuring consistency and synchronization with the implementation of the Dong Thap Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, and socio-economic development plans for each sector and locality.
The People's Committees of districts and cities, based on the actual situation of the locality, review, adjust, and develop plans, projects in the locality to ensure consistency and synchronization with the Plan; update the content of local planning to ensure compliance with the Plan's orientations. Prioritize budget allocation and mobilize other legal financial sources according to regulations to effectively implement the contents of the Plan to ensure compliance with the local socio-economic development conditions...
