Because the price of eggs imported from farms is low, the price at traditional markets has also dropped sharply since Tet. According to traders, there was a time when the retail price of eggs was only 1.5 - 1.8 thousand VND per egg. In the past week, the price of eggs has gradually increased from 2 - 2.5 thousand VND per egg, depending on the type.

According to calculations by livestock farmers, with the current price of animal feed, all costs for 1 egg are about 2.1 thousand VND. Thus, currently livestock farmers are only holding steady, but 3 months ago they were at heavy losses. The main reason is that the source of eggs in the province as well as the whole country is abundant, the supply is greater than the demand, so the price has dropped sharply. Ms. Tong Thi Hien, Director of Hien Nhuan Production and Trading Company Limited, Thanh Hoa province said: " When raising livestock, everyone invests in chickens, when there is a loss, everyone sells, leading to an unpredictable market, making it difficult to ensure stable prices in the market ."

Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest poultry herd in the world , but mainly serves domestic consumption needs, exports account for an insignificant proportion, so the country's egg volume is quite large. Faced with fluctuations in the consumer market, causing unstable egg prices, farmers need to invest in synchronous infrastructure associated with building a stable production - consumption chain.
