The central exchange rate between Vietnamese Dong (VND) and US Dollar (USD) announced by the State Bank today is 23,963 VND/USD, an increase of 3 VND compared to yesterday.
Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade at today's ceiling rate of VND25,161/USD and the floor rate of VND22,764/USD.
The USD/VND exchange rate at banks today increased sharply. The USD price at banks this morning increased from 145-170 VND/USD compared to yesterday morning.
Specifically, at 10:40 a.m. on August 29, Vietcombank listed the USD price at 23,980-24,350 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 160 VND/USD in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning.
At the same time, Vietinbank traded USD at 23,905 VND/USD (buy) and 24,325 VND/USD (sell), an increase of 145 VND/USD in both directions compared to yesterday morning.
Techcombank bought USD at 23,999 VND/USD this morning and sold at 24,355 VND/USD. Compared to yesterday morning, the USD price at Techcombank this morning increased by 162 VND/USD for buying and 167 VND for selling.
This morning, Sacombank listed the USD price at 23,970-24,320 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 165 VND/USD for buying and 170 VND for selling compared to yesterday morning.
Following the same trend, the USD price in the free market today continues to increase despite a sharp increase yesterday. The free USD price is commonly traded around 24,100-24,200 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 30 VND/USD in both buying and selling compared to yesterday.
Yesterday, the USD price on the free market increased by 210 VND/USD for buying and 110 VND/USD for selling compared to the previous session.
Over the past two sessions, the free USD price increased by 240 VND/USD for buying and increased by 140 VND/USD for selling.
It can be seen that the USD buying price in the free market today has increased beyond the USD buying price at commercial banks. However, the USD selling price in the free market is still 100 VND lower than the USD selling price at commercial banks.
In the world market, the USD price has cooled down after reaching a two-month peak late last week.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) - measuring the fluctuations of the US dollar against a basket of six major currencies - at 11:04 a.m. on August 29 (Vietnam time) fell to 103.85 points, down 0.2% compared to the previous session.
