Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks today are allowed to trade at a ceiling rate of VND25,217/USD and a floor rate of VND22,815/USD.
The State Bank of Vietnam's reference buying rate today is still maintained at 23,440 VND/USD. The reference selling rate decreased by 5 VND compared to yesterday, down to 25,166 VND/USD.
The USD/VND exchange rate at commercial banks today decreased sharply. Compared to yesterday morning, the USD price at banks this morning decreased by 90-100 VND. The USD selling price at banks has lost the mark of 24,500 VND/USD.
Specifically, at 10:46 a.m. on November 15, Vietcombank listed the USD price at 24,080-24,450 VND/USD (buy - sell), down 90 VND/USD in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning.
At the same time, Vietinbank traded USD at 24,031 VND/USD (buy) and 24,451 VND/USD (sell), down 89 VND/USD in both directions compared to the morning of November 14.
Techcombank bought USD at 24,104 VND/USD and sold at 24,448 VND/USD. Compared to the morning of November 14, the USD price at Techcombank this morning decreased by 102 VND/USD for buying and 104 VND/USD for selling.
Sacombank listed the USD price at 24,072-24,427 VND/USD (buy - sell), down 100 VND/USD in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, in the free market, the USD price tends to increase. Today's free USD price is commonly traded around 24,620-24,720 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 20 VND in both buying and selling compared to the previous session.
Thus, the USD price in the free market is currently much higher than that in commercial banks. The USD buying price in the free market is 516-589 VND/USD higher than that in commercial banks, while the USD selling price in the free market is currently nearly 300 VND higher than that in commercial banks.
In the international market, the USD price today showed signs of recovery after a sharp decline in the previous session. The US Dollar Index (DXY) - measuring the fluctuations of the US dollar against a basket of 6 major currencies - at 11:14 today (November 15, Vietnam time) was at 104.07 points, up 0.02% compared to the previous session.
The DXY index fell sharply after US consumer price data showed inflation eased slightly in October, increasing the possibility that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will raise interest rates.
