The USD/VND exchange rate at commercial banks this morning was adjusted to increase. Compared to the trading session at the end of last week (April 12), the USD price at many banks this morning increased by more than 100 VND, reaching a record high. Notably, the USD selling price at many banks has approached the 25,300 VND/USD mark.
Specifically, at 10:25 a.m., Vietcombank listed the USD price at 24,860-25,230 VND/USD, up 60 VND in both directions compared to the morning of April 12. This is the highest listed USD price at this bank ever.
The selling price of USD at many other banks also increased sharply, setting a new peak.
VietinBank this afternoon raised the USD price by 116 VND in both directions compared to the morning of April 12, buying at 24,843 VND/USD and selling at 25,263 VND/USD.
Similarly, Techcombank bought USD at 24,922 VND/USD this afternoon and sold at 25,270 VND/USD, up 116 VND in buying and 121 VND in selling compared to the morning of April 12.
Meanwhile, Sacombank listed the USD price at 24,880-25,270 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 105 VND in both buying and selling compared to the morning of April 12.
Meanwhile, the USD price in the free market today fluctuated little. The free USD price is commonly traded around 25,450-25,550 VND/USD (buy - sell). Compared to the previous session, the free USD price today remained the same at the buying price and increased by 20 VND at the selling price.
The buying price of USD on the free market is about 600 VND higher than at commercial banks. The selling price of USD on the free market is about 400 VND more expensive than at banks.
The central exchange rate announced by the State Bank on April 15 was 24,096 VND, an increase of 14 VND compared to the trading session at the end of last week.
Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade at today's ceiling rate of VND25,301/USD and the floor rate of VND22,891/USD.
The selling rate was also increased by 16 VND by the State Bank of Vietnam, bringing the buying and selling range to 23,400-25,250 VND/USD.
In the international market, the USD price today stabilized after rising sharply in the previous session. The USD rose to its highest level since November last year thanks to safe-haven demand amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) - measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies - at 11:36 a.m. on April 15 (Vietnam time) was at 105.99 points, down 0.04% from the previous session.
